Comments

  • slapping on psychic ills "mirror eye"
  • set fire to flames is intricate and worth a late-burst grab - i have signs reign rebuilder. lots of sounds to harbor.
  • damn - this rough guide to the music of india has some bend to it. 1 track is essential (6) and the first is a great bollywood james bond track. 2 others worth having. a couple "updated ones" are the laggards.
  • Can haz linkz, Chaz?? I can't seem to find that album on eMu.

I've really been digging the sound of Ambient India from last month's d/l's. I don't know if it's outre enough for your tastes but it goes well with mango chutney.
  • Karsh Kale (on the Ambient India) has some really interesting stuff. Little bit of an Enigma feel but heavier on the East Indian pop. Realize is the one I liked. Bit of a Laswell influence as well. Not spectacular but still really cool.
  • jelwood will also testify for the karsh kale. the rough guide material i snot on emu - my bad. i usually pick these up at the library + as an aside, i've become friends with the director of media procurement at the library. i wrote her a nice letter about 3 years ago + requested that she consider more blues as the current inventory of elton john, etc, is more than enough while the blues material would add historic qualities to the artistic. subsequently, she's ordered about 50 cd's on my recommendation. self-serving? no doubt. but i pay $12K in prop taxes and i know my library is one way i can get some specific return on my tax dollars...if i say nothing, the community gets the next elton john rekkid, if i speak up, she'll add sigur ros. the library is a great alternative, imho, to consider given all that is going on.
  • I've always supplemented my downloads with the library. Currently waiting my turn on the new Neko Case and the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Very excited for both of those.

  • My library has lots of good stuff. And if they don't have it, they do an interlibrary loan and get it, usually. One of the nice things about living near a state line...

Only Karsh Kale I have is 'Broken English' and I see I haven't played it for a few years. I should dust that one off.
  • midival punditz would fall into the "haven't lissened to in some time" but recall as decent.
  • Fembots "Small Town Murder" scene to pick something off a random mix CD of eMusic material. Alt-Country with a grainy film soundtrack feel. Which for no real reason reminds me of this other Toronto country band: The Backstabbers, not available on eMusic.

This disc also has Judy Dunaway "Mother of Balloon Music" and the Yellowman. I must say Yellowman is one of my favourite reggae/dance hall singers as of late.

Karsh Kale has been on my list of artists to explore for quite some time. But I just can't quite connect with him thru those 30sec snippets. Sometimes the samples work for me and sometimes they don't. With Karsh I think I'd be better with some straight up recs, so anyone feel free to pitch me either a whole album or a small handful of songs. Whatever you think best showcases his range. My next refresh is in a couple of days and since I'm on the 90/month plan for a while yet I'm still feeling somewhat adventurous. So far I'm hearing one yes vote for "Realize" and a maybe for "Broken English" - any others?

edit: just looked at Karsh's catalog and it seems a lot smaller than I remember it - weren't there more or am I confusing him with some else?!?!?
  • I confuse Karsh Kale and Kaskade sometimes.

Can't say that I recommend "Broken English" since I obviously didn't go back to it repeatedly! Track 12 Rise Up is pretty good. A bunch of them sound alike, which happens with a lot of electronic albums.

"Liberation" is the AMG album pick, and I notice the artist liked it well enough to do a "Liberation Remix" album. I have the track Gk2 (from a Six Degrees sampler), and that's a good one.
  • I'd rec Liberation.

If you're just looking for Laswell with tabla you can check out this hypnotic two tracker: Lo-Def Pressure
  • a niblet: Georgia's Horse, Various Production

damn - the album art is trippie
  • That it is!
