I didn't remember that amclark was the originator of the "Hire Jonah" groundswell, well done ac2. I do seem to recall that it was in response to a dumb-headed eMusic review of an important Miles Davis re-release that said something like, "I guess t…

Indeed. Holding out some hope that cutting staff doesn't mean all freelance contribs are gone. If so, hard to see the point of keeping the site up past the end of the month.

Bummer. Joe tweets, "I am the guy at the bar, sobbing."

I really like that "GitGo" album, plus the drummer is my old babysitter's son. He is "gigging" around town, as we Jazz Cats say
in What are you listening to right now? (13 Indigenous grandmothers are praying for the planet)

@Jonah, some of these albums are coming up because I created a playlist of jazz I haven't listened to in a while, and a lot of my old CDs are on it. I remember the exact sequence …

Though I have not (intentionally) heard a note of it, I hereby declare "1989" the album of the year. To make that much of a splash and sell so many copies is a remarkable accomplishment given the state of the music biz these days...I feel like she …

That's a good list. I've got 6, and will have several more more eventually! This is the first list I've seen with the Sean Jones album, which I like a lot.

You know, as one who has made out like a bandit on pretty much every one of the various and sundry sales, motherlodes and mispriced box sets over the years, but can't get in on this one because no Win8 device, I would just like to say: Swindleee

There is a jazz voting list that works something like that - I can't find it (last year's), but Jonah will know where it is. I find it really useful, not so much for the top vote getters as for the less well known stuff that a lot of people still l…

Smoke Sessions in general is my favorite thing this year. Even adjusting for my love for big live jazz sets, they are high-quality recordings of interesting groups of players, each offering a distinct point of view. Great sense of immediacy in eac…

That's more like it. I have 6 or 7 albums on that jazz list, and several others saved for later. That Eric Harland album, as far as I can tell, can only be ordered from the artist or DL'd on iTunes

Stereogum: I have heard of many of those albums, thought I might like to hear 6 or 7 of them, actually listened to 0.
I do actually own a previous album from 1 of these bands! (The Men) And I have heard and like St Vincent.
My updated "lastimer" chart, which shows time listened rather than play counts. (They don't auto-update anymore.) 1. That is a lot of damn jazz. 2. 13 hours/day actually is plausible. 3. My top pop artists (Beatles and Stevie) get dropped way…
