Craig:
Wow.

Another bargain from Numero Group: Syl Johnson, Complete Mythology (73 tracks for $6.99). Great stuff.

I just got that Eccentric Soul: Omnibus set, seemed too good to pass up. Three songs in, it's great. Definitely going to look for more stuff from Numero Group.

If we're broadening the thread to include video recs on Amazon Prime, I watched A Band Called Death on Prime a couple of weeks ago. It was excellent, and highly recommended for any punk fans out there.

Nice one Craig. I definitely want to see Courtney Barnett next time she plays in DC.

Keith Emerson. I was never a big ELP fan but still have a copy of Brain Salad Surgery somewhere. Funny to read in the article that he became good friends with John Lydon. RIP.

A couple of weeks ago I saw Dan Baird & Homemade Sin in DC. I was exhausted after no sleep and a cross-country flight earlier in the day, but I haven't seen Dan Baird since a Georgia Satellites one-off reunion in Atlanta probably around 2002. Lo…

I stumbled across the Courtney Barnett album a couple of months ago and like it a lot. The only other ones on Craig's list I have heard are Titus Andronicus and Sleater-Kinney, both of which are really good.

Saw Holy Holy at the Birchmere last night. Holy Holy is a tribute to David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold The World, featuring the rhythm section from the original album, Woody Woodmansey and Tony Visconti. Woodmansey was Bowie’s …

Stunned is the right word. I've heard rumors over the past couple of years that he was ill, but with Bowie, you never knew what to believe. Certainly when the new album came out a couple of days ago there was no indication, but he let the music stan…

I have two from the Ted Gioia list and four each from Stereogum and SPIN. That's more than usual for me. I also have at least two or three more in my eMusic SFL, but I won't crack double figures on any of those lists.

Craig, All Them Witches are in St. Paul on 12/19. If you can go, I'd highly recommend it.
I can't even imagine seven hours of hip-hop. Hell, at my age, I can't imagine standing for seven hours of anything.

Saw All Them Witches last night in DC w/New Madrid. New Madrid was entertaining, they're from Athens, GA and seemed to be going for a My Morning Jacket vibe (echoey, processed, occasionally high-register vocals and most songs had the soft-loud slow…

I got the same offer email two or three weeks ago, and of course I took it. Too good to pass up.

Gov't Mule, Georgia Bootleg Box. 6 discs, $6.49. I already have it, and it's excellent.

I just got an offer for $100 in free credits to rejoin eMusic. Guess I'm back, at least for a little while.

@idiotprogrammer, thanks for the heads up on the Acrobat sets. I have loads of Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf, but I realized I have almost nothing from Chuck Berry except…

Of those 15 documentaries, I've seen exactly one, The Punk Singer. It was on Netflix, and it was really good.

That should be fun, Craig. I missed that Big Star show when they came to DC last year, I was out of town.
I just got a ticket to see Titus Andronicus at the Black Cat in early September. I've read a bunch of raves about the new CD, and … -
Luddite, I'm with you on Amie Street. I miss that place. Between the recs that turned into store credits, and the half off sales, and the stuff that started off free or super cheap, I downloaded a ton of music off that site. My Amie Street playli…

New Pornographers at the 9:30 Club last Friday night. I've always liked their albums and a few songs would jump out and stick with me whenever I listened, but I never felt like I was as into them as I should be, since their music falls in my power …

Chris Squire. Founding member of Yes and just a phenomenal bass player. RIP.

Plong42, thanks for the Duke Ellington tip. Interestingly, eMusic has the same release posted twice, once for $6.49 and once for $53.80. Draw your own conclusions, but I grabbed it.

Yes, power trios rule. My favorite musical life form.
Algiers sounds cool. I lived in Atlanta for a long time so I'm naturally interested in any bands coming out of that scene. Gospel post punk, I like it. And free tickets are awesome.…
