This month and last month I've been preparing just in case eMusic Europe celebrates the new year by Sonyfying my 3 accounts. So whereas for years I've tended to balance many-track albums with few-track albums, lately almost everything's been 5 track…

Personally I refer to the piano as a keyboard instrument.

Well, I used to do my annual "what is eMusic's taste in music?" rant - tongue slightly but not fully in cheek - over on the other boards. The tokenism for classical on the end-of-year-list really showed them up as... not phony exactly, but clearly n…

Why?
Because the record industry still believes that the opposite of music piracy is buying music, when we all know that, by and large, the opposite of music piracy is not buying music. -
"You have to admit it is different "
Not from the rest of the page, it isn't. -
I must say thanks to elwoodicious and NankerP in particular for pointing me to 8tracks. I now have a couple of classical mixes up.

Awwwwww.
Oh, wait. Wrong sort of awe. -
Well, it's BIS, so you have to get Sibelius. Disc 3 of the Essential Sibelius is 7 tracks and has some of his best-known works, in…

November 1, he says.
Notice how apparently he has managed to switch distributors without fucking things up for everyone. -
(Quote) To some degree, all of the above. Well, maybe not the book thing, although now you've got me thinking.
In real life I'm not a social person, but doing Nereffid's Guide and posting regularly on the other place gave me a strong … -
If you're checking his stats, who are you? Witchfinder General?

Yes, as soon as you register and install the downloader you get the gift. But it's 4 particular albums - you don't get to choose.
1. Josef Suk sampler - 4 classical tracks
2. Qobuz sampler #1 - mostly classical
3. Agnus Dei - a Nax… -

Thanks for that, Ronan. A nice-looking site. For thr moment, though, eMu's still getting most of my music money (frinstance Pludermacher's Ravel works out at less than 8 euro for me), and euro/sterling being the way it is, mail-order prices for CDs …

(Quote) Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, I'm shilling for eMu again!

Does using an identity other than the one everyone knows me by count?
My alter ego knows no shame. -
Actually it's the full set of Schubert symphonies, and the quartets are Janacek/Dvorak/Enescu. I wonder how long it will take for classical.com to give away the entire Forlane catalogue?

Hmmm... so eMu's least likely customers would be 50-year-old Welsh women?

Thanks, Tim. The group flew across my radar some time last year but I never got round to dl'ing - will put them on the list for next month.

Yes, it's just a different world over there now. The vibe that got me involved years ago simply vanished. I do still occasionally post there, using another of my accounts, but very much not in the helpful-Nereffid-isn't-eMu-so-great sort of way.
And correspondingly cheap on amazon.co.uk, too. Nice, for those who can get it.
If only someone had told my grandfather that winning independence for Ireland would have meant we couldn't download from Amazon or use Spotify! Thanks for your advice, jtcdlantnld.
Why are you here, exactly?I remember a few years ago browsing through Arkiv.music and being absolutely baffled as to who Jean Joseph Mouret was and why there were 50-odd recordings of some work I'd never heard of.
I've still never heard it, either.Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in!
I have a couple of recordings of Ma Vlast, but neither is from eMusic. Of the 2 you mention, I'd incline towards Wit on Naxos (comparing the reviews in the Penguin Guide, and also be…Wow, I just logged in to eMusic and got the following message:
You Rock!
Thank you for being a valued eMusic member. As a little token of our appreciation, we've decided to say "fuck Sony" and go back to the old prices. Oh, and we'…(Quote) That, I'd say, is just marketing-speak, persuading people to jump in now rather think about it for a couple of months.
I know it's easy now to refuse eMu the benefit of the doubt, but I'm just saying there doesn't have to always be …Uhhh... I'm on an annual + 20% discount, and have been for years. I thought eMu people had been saying that this sort of a plan was the problem, not the solution. You know: "you people with your cheap downloads are parasites! you're ruining eMu for …This week there's some Tchaikovsky from Menuhin (conductor, not soloist), plus an Offenbach album that I've managed to track down as in Classical.com free albums Comment by Nereffid September 2009
