I need a taskmaster though. I was hoping to get the full history done by the end of this decade!

I wish I could get another history piece up, but I just don't have the time to finish the chapter I'm working on. Maybe a huge push will get it done next week, but I see September as a more likely result, unfortunately.

This gives me some ideas for the next one... "Josquin's use of imitation technique was unutterably cyclopean..."(Quote)
Yes, I'm 6 episodes in and I do have the occasional "wait, what was this bit about, again?" feeling, but the show has always been one to rewatch repeatedly, so I'm actually OK with being disoriented. I assume it'll make sense secon…
Nazi necromancers from another universe. I love Charlie Stross....and World War I started when some bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich because he was hungry.(Quote)
Yeah, George RR Martin loves his "OMG is he/she dead??" moments. You can go entire books not knowing the answer.I've submitted another classical history chapter. Forgot the categories and tags, though. It seems to me with GoT that we might be getting a single 10-hour TV show rather than 10 individual episodes. This matches the style of the books - a whole bunch of often unrelated stories, with occasional sudden climaxes - but whether it makes grea…That reminds me of the time (this was in the late 90s) I got Harry Harrison to autograph this:
His reaction was "Ah! Now there's a cover!"Well, I for one never download from a guy on the first date.Meanwhile, I've just started reading this
Which starts off as historical fiction but we're promised time travel. Yay!Interesting, GP. I was a big fan of Stephenson until Quicksilver, or rather until the "Jack" section of Quicksilver, which I found an absolute chore to get through, so much so that even when I was finished it I couldn't bring myself to go further in…I'm about 100 CDs away from getting my full classical collection onto a hard drive, and the stats so far are:
Tracks: 54,813
Size: 303 GB
Total time: 4,229 hours
Median track length: 3:36
Median year o…For the last several months I've had problems with my v4 DLM - click on download and I had a 50-50 chance that it would actually download on the first attempt. Couple of weeks ago it suddenly became completely unresponsive, so I took a chance on DLM…Latest chapter of music history is now ready to go.
A series on BBC TV just finished, Howard Goodall's Story of Music. I spent a lot of the first episode (in particular) shouting at the screen, pausing the show and explaining at l…I think "Oscar Pistorius charged with murder" merits a WTF.Presumably B-16 thought that the Ailing Pontiff Death Watch, as seen with the previous pope, was something the church would be better off avoiding.(Quote) Dorothy L Sayers (quoted by Steven Pinker in The Better Angels of our Nature)My best of the year is now done. I managed to add a new entry into the top 10 just this morning, so it's probably best that I stop now.
I know I had a long time at the top with my last article, so I have no problems with being held back …I have as much sympathy for musicians as I do for anyone else who's in an industry that's undergoing a paradigm shift, which is to say I do indeed have sympathy but not if their response is to hope the paradigm shift just goes away.
