I've submitted the latest classical history post.
Could whoever's releasing it create a new category - I suggest A History of Classical Music - and also add it to the previous posts? -
Classical labels: the "major indies" would be Naxos, Hyperion, Chandos, Harmonia Mundi (the French/US one, not Deutsche Harmonia Mundi), and BIS.
As for artists, I have no idea who tweets. If you're willing to do the legwork, one possibility i… -
I've submitted a Classical Highlights post for review.
I was knocked out by illness for a few days, otherwise I'd have completed my troubadours post. I hope to get that done early next week. It's my intention to create an 8tracks mix for each … -
As it happens, the first album on the 3rd part of my classical history series for MusicIsGood will be Dante & …

My general attitude to these big bargain sets is that as long as you have some sense of caveat emptor you'll do OK. Sometimes you'll get an orchestra that's not great, or something where the recorded sound is poor, or a performance of early music wi…

I've submitted my Nereffid's Guide Awards post for review.

Well, I'm happy with my pairing of the two works from Antal Dorati and the Detroit Symphony (Decca) but I don't think you can get them on a single disc any more. They're part of a cheap 5-disc "Ultimate Russian Classics" ( in Nereffid's Guide Awards 2011 Comment by Nereffid February 2012

I like it! But you also need a little dog that can play dead.

(Quote) Hey, that was McCartney's original lyric until he changed it...

Having somehow made it through the earlier Thomas Covenant series more or less unscathed, I just can't bring myself to read any more. I really enjoyed Donaldson's Gap series though (well, Wagner fan...).
I've managed to read the first of Gene … -

As always, the first step in choosing who to vote for is to eliminate all those who enjoy being fellated by big business. That usually thins the field somewhat. -
I think that all I was getting at was that up till that point (for the sake of narrative purposes, anyway; I doubt if there was any one moment of realisation) medieval music, what little I knew of it, sounded to me simply as a recreation of somethin…

Let me just interject here with an apology for my lack of involvement lately. Currently working on the Nereffid's Guide Awards, so I'll have a related post on that around the end of the month. Hopefully a couple of history posts will soon follow, an…

So... frogkopf returns, and now Kim Jong-Il is dead.
Coincidence? -
I've also submitted History, Part 2.
There won't be another of these for a month or so, so perhaps it could be scheduled for a week or two in the future, so they're more evenly spaced. -
Right - the latest Classical Highlights is done. Publish as needed.

Sounds more like a candidate for world's strangest telethon.

I'll be unable to get anything done between this week and January - Christmas holidays, away from computer, that kind of thing. But I now have Part 2 of my History in draft form, and I'll try to get another Classical Highlights thing done tonight. A…

@BadThoughts: (Quote) Actually troubadour songs were rich people's music. The earliest troubadour known today is Duke Guillaume IX of Aquitaine, and it was an aristocratic …

Ah, Nordic Spell! I'll always associate that album with eMusic at its finest. I don't know how many of you guys were around the eMu boards back in those days (5 years ago, I suppose), but Nordic Spell became the subject of a little campaign by Music…

I've added a comment to the introductory post, giving the link to the Hammerschmidt album. I thought this detail was a bit incidental to the post. I tend to be very sparing with links.
Actually I've gone back to the Gregorian post and added al… -
Well I never heard of Girls either, but I have to say that I wish bands would give more thought to what will happen when people Google them.

I think Noah certainly is earning his pay - he's stepping outside the canned responses. I had to contact CS twice more or less simultaneously, with different downloading issues for each of my 2 accounts. In one I said I couldn't switch my DLM from d…

Thanks Craig for the link. I meant to do that myself.

OK, my introduction and Gregorian chant posts are ready to go.

@Craig: I made a couple of little changes to my "A History of Classical Music through Recordings" post, so I guess it's gone back to Draft status. Actually I didn't realise I'd sen…

Do we have any stats for site traffic for musicisgood.org?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious about the impact of an Over the Rhine Facebook post.
