I really love "Alice In Wonderland" from Current Events. What a wonderful waltz, beautiful melody. It relaxes me even to hum it. I like the slower tempo than, say, the classic Bill Evans' performances (which are great too of course).

GoT certainly wouldn't be the one to change that rule. The Wire did that (can't think of an earlier, more pure example of "novel in a season" television, though maybe a British show did it). And The Wire managed to be great, artful dra…

There are just so many threads to juggle in GoT that it's obviously very hard work to make each episode invigorating. I thought they failed with the premiere, which felt workmanlike to me, but I did like ep 2 more. Yes, it's a lot of great st…

Looks like zero for me today.

Was going to say, you should have a 'Previous iTunes Libraries' backup folder... But yeah, essential to backup the itl file, if you care about your library.

I don't mind at all not getting it.

(Quote) Hopefully everyone already knows about Bobby's great bandcamp page, chock full of $5 albums.

Gp, mostly band, some vocals.

I really liked Anathem. Have Reamde in the queue. Skipped the Baroque trilogy.
I will definitely add the Kim Stanley Robinson to the list. I've been a mild fan of his since his early days, publishing in Asimov's and … -
Doofy: (Quote) Wow, that is a lot of old jazz. Now I'm tempted to ask you what your numbers are by decade. I guess I'll see what mine are:

30s: 238 (0.6%)
40s: 482 (1.1%)
50s: 1264 (3.0%)

Well, now, Greg, I think your median year will be skewed by your not correcting your tags!

I guess one more interesting stat - my iTunes library is intact from Nov 2003 (my oldest last-played is 11/18/2003), working in a 10 yr anniversary. I'm obsessive about listening history/playcounts (many of my playlists are based on selecting stuff …

I'm hoping for some more median-year stats - that strikes me as a potentially interesting axis...

jonah: (Quote) Heh, that's quite high - it's obvious how much jazz probably dominates your library.
-
(Quote) As a decent estimate, you simply sort the full library on the measured value (time, year, plays, etc), and drag the scrollbar to the halfway point or so (or if you have a numbered playlist, you can choose the exact halfway point). Median …

Think of it as 1+ free albums a week for clicking a slightly annoying bunch of times.

Nice Butcher find. I'd already bought that from emusic, but great that people can access Butcher's music more easily.
Here's a fine English electro-acoustic improv label that just formed a bandcamp presence. Many fine releases from promi… -
I looked, there are a few North American dates with Dirty Projectors in May/June. Pretty cool combo.

thom, is the National touring soon, or was that just wishful musing? Definitely wouldn't miss a National performance.

That Piotr Kurek album is quite nice, thx bn.

Imo, Desmond would be a more fruitful investigation target - definitely seek his non-Brubeck work with (separately) Jim Hall and Gerry Mulligan.

(Quote) I don't know what to think of this. First, Kenny G mostly (always?) played soprano, right? And second, the entire history of jazz is strewn with antidotes to having been put off of anything by Kenny G!

Gp, two ECMs featuring Frisell that I don't think you should overlook in your investigations (assuming you have) are Paul Motian's Psalm and his own Lookout For Hope.
Checking on the last, I see that Jerry Douglas covered t… -
Master-of-tape-loops Jason Lescalleet has his compilation of early works This Is What I Do - volume 1 available at bandcamp now. Fine stuff for the experimental fans here.Tri Repetae gets my (and probably many) votes as the starting point for Autechre. If you don't like that, then the next starter recommendation would be highly fickle, OR you're just not likely to enjoy Autechre.BT, what's your retry schedule? Mine will repeatedly fail for several minutes, but come back in a little while and they start up again. However, if you're in a "all" situation, I guess it is something particular with you, unfortunately.I have been getting download failures lately - I don't lose credits because you can open the "click here" link in another tab and keep trying till it works. But it is a pain.
