Quality Control's a fun one - I like it. Especially the variety of voices.

(Quote) I was going to make the joke that that was the sentence I usually heard, way more than "hip-hop".

Ah, ok, I didn't get a hint in your Matthew Herbert comment that you were looking to "purchase"/download - it sounded like a lament that you couldn't access it to listen.

bn, glad you've got your "hands" on Berne's Snakeoil, that's a special record, definitely my jazz record of 2012. But Berne's my favorite musician period, and I do consider this a pretty notable record in his discography.

(Quote) Gp, do you listen at your computer? You owe it to yourself to spend 17 cents/day ($5/mo) and subscribe to a nice streaming service (like Rdio or MOG), and not subject yourself to the interface and minor-label limitations Guvera suffers! <…

A quickie answer, busy atm: I do recommend the early work, yes, and here's a nice article that discusses the entire period and the releases involved:

Any of you longtime users happen to notice what the ECM release availability lag on Guvera is? I know that recent releases are not available, but haven't looked for the most recent available.
One thing I'm fixing with Guvera is that alth… -
Gp, hm, how should I say this: you risk being viewed as obligated to feel horribly guilty at noting that you're merely "considering" grabbing the best of Parliament for free (or, strictly speaking, at minimal opportunity cost). As opposed to OMG I F…

Gp, reluctant to relay your initial impression of Aesop Rock, then?

I'd never recommend Ghostface Killah myself, but only because I get nothing out of his voice - he's a "shouty" kinda rapper to my ears, without much vocal sonority or interesting inflection. I could never get into FishScale because of that.

Craig: (Quote) I'm a big Stars fan, but I never felt the negativity towards The Five Ghosts that I saw brought up here. It ends a tad weak, but I think pretty highly of the first 9 tracks. I like The North plenty too, though not a fa…

It seems to me I missed some "Guvera credits tips" post somewhere - having only recently joined, I think I've found maybe three a day, assuming I remember to check. Some of this might be self-limitations:

Tibbett's Yr is what put him on the map, deservedly so.

I like Tibbetts' work a whole lot.

It's a great record, but then, I think all of Hollenbeck's large ensemble records are great. He's probably my favorite large ensemble composer/arranger right now. I saw this material performed in DC last month.
-
Long-time fan of that Torn record, since it came out.

Check First Listen, kez!

Fwiw, if Google images doesn't immediately spit out a 500+ pixel square image, I then check http://rateyourmusic.com/, which reliably features often best-available cover art supplied by users.

Good pointer, bn. Thanks!
Mats Gustafsson once slept on my living room floor, when I presented Aaly Trio with Ken Vandermark. -
thom: (Quote) This is because you don't subscribe to a cheap streaming service? I cannot imagine trading my $5/month Rdio account for free streaming from Guvera with its magnitudes-worse interface. I think I'll use Guvera to stream ECM (and maybe …

amclark2, yes, you click a track, and it takes you to a page with all the album's tracks (oh, and starts playing whether you want to or not). But still, no album title! In fact, at no time in any of that clicking (even if you add the album to a play…

Album titles with the artist name in it is certainly not the same as the albums found in the artist's catalog. Most artist searches simply list the artist's name, and clicking on it gives track listings. Blurgh.

So I'd avoided Guvera for ages, based on an earlier look and the processes I heard about to use it. But since so many are enthusiastic about it as a source, I signed up to check it out. While it's nice to be able to stream ECM, I still find the almo…

(Quote) Isn't that good? There's no "right price" for anything.

Oof, Butler must have been livid at that cover.

Also, in case anyone else is suffering iTunes 11 slowness in searching - if you deselect 'search entire library', you'll avoid suffering frequent dynamic-search beach-balls, but you have to go to 'Songs' to search your entire lib, similar to searchi…
