Heh, check the 'experimental' tag for more poor reflecting. I do wish they'd enable browsing an individual's library by tag, I'll never not be surprised you can't do that.

Fucked Up has an appealing name for said target audience, and a great big-sounding guitary punk thing going.

ML, just fyi, these quotes and information in teh article most definitely made the rounds weeks ago. It would be nice to see more detailed information about the nature of the terms, but none appears forthcoming.

Look at it this way - would you work less hard on your digital library if you were guaranteed it would be destroyed upon your death? Probably not. The library is for you, and its upkeep pays off every day (at least, I assume). Remember that you w…

A streaming service seems like it would be suited to filling the gap while cheaper purchase options remain unavailable. I like having my napster sub for sampling. I have a hard time listening to albums on napster the same way I do those I own, but…

If anyone finds a "deal" on Tilt, give me a yell. (I'm annoyed I missed that at the 7digital blowout.) And no, I will not do Guvera.

Jonah, one possible way to get a broad sampling of classical is to check out the old "Listening Club - Classical" thread at emusic. That featured cherry-picked single track recommendations for others to hear and comment on, and showcased a fair var…

Sort, just want to clarify - I guessed 1/10,000 as the type of customer willing to invest in an expensive outboard USB DAC (and heck, that might be a generous guess at that fraction). Not just the type of person to value lossless.

I think it's always been foolish to think the ingested tracks would be re-encoded. The effort to process 250k tracks is non-negligible. What I'm still waiting on is an official statement of what the future encodings will be. The note on the emu b…

The simple answer is most probably that the market for FLAC is too small. Most portable players are too small to hold a large selection of FLAC files, and most don't play FLAC in the first place (including the most popular player, the ipod). Downl…

Fwiw, there was a big New World drop at emu today.
edit: Actually, it may be a re-drop - I know many of them were here already, dunno if that appl… -
I infer that for whatever bizarre reason, UMG disallowed LAME as a choice. Can't imagine why emusic would choose otherwise if they were free to. I was also surprised to learn emu encoded things. Am I wrong to mistrust that claim? I suppose it's …

Thanks, BT, wow, long list, unexpected items. Thinking this looks like a glitch!

I'm dismayed the theatrical versions of the LOTR movies are even available, let alone that the extended ones aren't on BR. The Two Towers especially suffered in the theatrical version - I remember thinking the movie was a mess for the first …

Re: Nels Cline's Initiate (Quote) Oh, he sneaks some in in the last minute and a half of "Divining" (tr 1.3).

(Quote) Don't forget his terrible rapping and flow. Great producer though. I've enjoyed what I've heard of the new one, but not enough to really get on board.

Fwiw, just got a netflix-streaming LG BR player, and the netflix streaming quality is way better than netflix from the Wii, which is what I used before.

I don't think this Fraunhofer thing is necessarily about bitrates. BDB's off the cuff comparison of a 2.5 minute track (I did assume musically comparable, though) and seeing 25% lower size is worrisome. But more to the point, LAME is very well-tes…
-
thom, why are you talking about CBR in this context, since eMusic doesn't offer CBR files? If you want to defend UMG's Fraunhofer decision, talk about the likelihood that a ~25% decrease in filesize between two VBR encodings won't have much affect …

I've been on 4/month since 1999, a longtime fan of the service. With kids, as is common, our throughput isn't what it used to be. The price increase might well induce me to downgrade, despite my grandfathering (we pay 3/mo rates).

bn, can you comment on the Massey? Frisell in 1981 - is he prominent? I definitely enjoy his nascent guitar sonics on Arild Andersen's A Molde Concert from the same year.

Click through Doofy's link to 'Jazz', and get a smorgasbord of Billy Harper albums. Latecomers to that great tenor saxophonist should go to town. Also, the cheap The Works releases from in Amazon Daily mp3 Download Deals Comment by kargatron November 2010

xtrev, I'm familiar with the common complaint of acquiring too much music to listen to - I was just pedantically joking about the literal interpretation of your statement, that you spent more time acquiring than listening. 2 hrs of acquisiti…

And fwiw, I'd say Lungs is worth the $4, cool album.

(Quote) I don't get it, this should be impossible, unless you really didn't listen to music while you shopped online, which would strike me as odd. Though I guess if you don't count sample listening, it's imaginable...

luddite, I think it's probable that buying that set from eMusic for $6 is doing the opposite of "giving money to emusic", assuming sensible compensation rates/schemes to the content producers.
amclark2, huh, that is an odd one, not sure … -
Doofy has a winner! That's a great set, listened to that on lala. That might actually call for a booster.
EDIT: ...aaaand, done. Definitely worth it, thx Doofy! I regretted not grabbing that on the original mispricing after I had li…
