emusic/goodnoise?

edited January 2011 in General
I Just did a search on Doofy's post - in What are you listening to - via google search for Jim Hall and Bill Frisell and came up with this:
http://goodnoise.com/artist/Jim-Hall-MP3-Download/10558608.html

Looks like emusic but Firefox thinks it's a scam. Phishing expedition maybe?

Is anyone else aware of goodnoise?

This was posted here recently. Apparently, goodnoise.com was the precursor to eMusic, and they just kept the url.

EDIT: Link to the other thread.

  • Interesting, never heard of any of those names.

This is interesting, Goodnoise gives us Europeans access to all the US only major label stuff.
    - and even the preview buttoms is there and working. I wonder what happens if I try to sign up.

    Edit:
    Jay ! I can preview Lady Ga Ga ! ! !
    ;-)

Edit 2: maybe I should keep quiet about this ?

@brighternow - do let us know what happens. Having just looked at the site there are a number of things I'd be happy to download with my free $20! In the past I have tried to sign up for both Amazon.com and the USA itunes site to try to download music more cheaply. Both rejected my credit card details as not appropriate, even though I have actually used one of them whilst in the States on holiday

    Greg,
It's very likely that my credit card will stop me from getting any further, or my email ending with dk.
I've tried amazon too, I did'nt get as far as submitting my card number, they spotted earlier on in the process where I came from.

Edit: But Denmark IS in the sign in box. . . Hmmm. ?
  • coincidentally, just after i saw "goodnoise" mentioend for the first time in one of the threads here, i was searching for writings about an album (mad one's house girls), and -- for the first time -- i saw this "goodnoise" site. and as the first listed item on GOOGLE, no less.

    A strange thing. . .

I've compared an album by Deaf Center, and the Goodnoise has no reviews, but the eMu has.

Is this the same in the US ?
  • I've tried to log in even though my browser told me not to and all the US only stuff was gone.
    - No surprise really, when I think of it.
  • I have done some exploring on Goodnoise, which I cannot do on emusic as it automatically recognises me. Yes there is music there I'd like to download if it was available to me in Europe, but not really as much as I had anticipated. As I said a couple of days ago over there, I now do not think the gain of the majors in Europe would for me be sufficient justification for the inevitable major price hike that would come when I lose my grandfather plan.

    Yeah,
Another downside is that we'll probably loose the pay per track.
This will mean that all singles and EP's with "album only" tracks would be priced from 5 to 6 Euros.
    - And albums like this will go from 0,49 to 5,99.

The most expensive tracks atm. is 0,89 USD. and because there's no difference in eMu prices in Euros and USD, a 0,89 Euro track will be = 1,15 USD.
