Makunouchi Bento (Felix Petrescu aka Waka X + Valentin Toma aka Toma Carnagiu) turns 18 today.
To celebrate this, here's a retrospective mix put up by Toma Carnagiu. A cinematic trip through our discography, from the old IDM and 8-bit days, through some of our most obscure experiments, up to the most recent organic, electro-acoustic compositions. A couple of "lost tapes" and unreleased tracks included.
If you enjoyed this ride, head off to our Bandcamp and download any of the songs you liked!
Selected and mixed by Toma Carnagiu. Artwork by Santiago J. Franzani (Antennaria Games) and Felix Petrescu.
I thought, this is a good place to park this piece of sensational Romanian music history:
On its 35-year anniversary, Octavian Nemescu's seminal electronic album GRADEATIA-NATURAL is being re-issued for the first time on vinyl in its complete form. The first fully-electronic album to be released in Romania under its culturally-repressive Communist regime.
Our latest live act is "The Music of Bodrog", feat. @Selfmademusic. If you wish to help and see us perform live in your town, share this presentation page with your local promoters / music or film festivals / cultural institutions that might be interested.
We’re happy to release our latest - and shortest - EP, Stray Beads.
4 x 80 seconds tracks, recently made for the “Mixage Fou édition #10” contest. 100% heavily processed field recordings (the ones they provided), mixed in stereo and binaural (3D sound).
To get the best out of it, we don’t recommend streaming from Bandcamp. Download the EP for full audio quality (24bit, 48kHz), and use a good pair of headphones - the songs were written for headphones!
While listening, read the short story written by Felix Petrescu - check the Bandcamp page / pdf included in the download pack. Enjoy!
Thanks, as usual. I haven't figured out how to do those pdf's yet but I will, someday. All I can say is you folks have been an important part of my Garden for years. Thanks again.

A short song we wrote using "The Grand Mechaniano" NI Kontakt library by AtomHub, and absolutely nothing else, no external effects or anything. Enjoy! Then, if you're a producer, go check all AtomHub's libraries, you'll be amazed. The Grand Mechaniano was based on the sound of a grand piano. The idea was to effect and alter the samples to expose and emphasize all the "ugliness" the piano would be capable of under certain circumstances. The goal was to obtain the sounds with a "different" aesthetic - raw, unpolished, detuned, squeaky, creaky, noisy, gritty, dusty, cracky, lo-fi, warped, overdriven or otherwise sound-designed samples. These sounds could be mangled together with many other sounds, mostly of a metallic and mechanical nature. All this together in a three-layer concept would provide us with a wonderfully surreal instrument sharing the piano nature with more or less weird additional flavours. 18 in romanian = optsprezece
https://dexonline.ro/definitie/optsprezece
but we use to say "Opșpe" in vernacular or for short.
( Opșpe = to read "opschpe"
ș = you read it "sch" in romanian.
voila!:)
misteries unlocked.
