Dispatches from the road.
Day one was spent battle the abyss known as Jersey. Nine hours to drive 340 miles...
Self-Portrait from the Road
We arrived at 1am to our hotel in Maryland and this is what I looked like after snatching a scant 4 hours of sleep before my daughter bounced me awake for breakfast.
Over the water we flew chasing the last ray of the sun.
The view from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
We arrived hastened by winds and a low fog gathered tightly about us.
Near sunset, the dunes outside the house we are renting.
With all the fury of my beloved the sea threw itself at me.
A storm threatens the beach outside our backdoor.

Thanks to streaming over the internet, I just watched the fireworks of Thunder Over Louisville. Always a great show, but so much better in person when you can feel the show as well as see it. Sort of like feeling the fury of the sea.
While the house slumbered I chased the dawn over the dunes.
I woke up just after sunrise but managed to tumble over the dunes in time to catch some of the later morning light.
Chariots
Last night's storm left the seas still rolling and roaring.
Breakfast on the run
However, the birds found endless sport in outrunning the tide while catching breakfast.
A Jawa's Afternoon
The constant wind steals your heat rather quickly.

Pre-Feeding Sneer
She has been working intensely on scowls and sneers in anticipation of her teenage years.
@thom, I'll let you know if we pass back up through NJ. Wife is hinting that she'd rather return home by way of Ohio before entering the Garden State. ;-)

Goodbye, Sea.
Last morning on the beach when I finally got up in time for the sunrise. I wish I was still there.
