If that 50 second video is a good preview, I'm very excited, too.
It's going to be hard for his sophomore album to retain a solid connection to his debut without sounding too much like a retread. Hopefully he can pull it off.
Well, some people will tell you that decades technically begin in the "1" year, not the "0" year, so if you follow that reasoning then album of the year and album of the decade are actually the same thing. Of course, when people tell me that, that's when I usually reach for my revolver, only to remember that I don't own a revolver and that in fact I'm ideologically opposed to the private use of firearms. Then there's that awkward, embarrassing moment when I have to tell the person that I thought I'd just felt my cell phone vibrating or some-such thing, like I thought I had a granola bar in my pocket and was feeling "a bit peckish."
Kenny, what do you think of the Figurines, or Beach House? I like Bon Iver I guess, but he's more folksy than what I typically go for... it might be more accurate to say I don't dislike him, I suppose. Hey, maybe the new record will contain a couple of fuzzy-shoegazey numbers!
I don't usually go for the folky stuff (sorry Kenny, but I can't understand why people like Fleet Foxes), but I actually thoroughly enjoyed For Emma. So I too am looking forward to this disc.
ScissorMan - Don't be embarrassed. Just go listen to some Mission of Burma and they can reach for your revolver for you.
I bet the guys in Mission of Burma didn't have revolvers either. The rage in the song probably comes from going through the exact same thing as Scissorman whenever people told them that the '80's didn't start until 1981.
It's only the second year of the decade, I can see the follow-up to a surprise "indie hit" that seemingly came out of nowhere being the most anticipated release so far.
1. I really liked Beach House's last record. It's so mellow that it took me eight months to realize how beautiful it is.
2. I've been kind of anti-folk lately, with a few notable exceptions (Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver). I don't really consider Bon Iver folk. Sure he plays acoustic guitar, but their music is all about his voice, for me. It moves and flows and drips emotion, even through his non-sense lyrics. I love when that much is communicated.
The first single from the new Bon Iver is available for an email address: here.
As for folk, it isn't defined by acoustic guitar. For me it's music heavily indebted in style both of music and lyrics to the artists like Dylan, The Band, and Seeger. Lyrically it's exactly what you refer to as flowing and dripping with emotion.

@SM - Ever watch "Spaced"? No need for an actual revolver, just use what you got.
