The Database of Recorded American Music (DRAM)

edited February 2012 in Classical
The Database of Recorded American Music (DRAM) is now selling individual subscriptions. Previously institutions only. Seems to be just for streaming, but rates very reasonable. This Peter Margasak blog post has the skinny. I can think of a few eMusers who are likely to jump on this one!

  • Yeah, this looks very interesting . . .

    Has anyone tried yet ?

This is from the DRAM Trial Request:
Please note: We do not yet offer individual trials to DRAM, except under special circumstances. If you are interested in an individual trial, please send a brief e-mail detailing your circumstances to answers@dramonline.org.
  • No, individual subscriptions were definitely there last night. The "Sound American" site is down at the moment. Will keep an eye on this...

First of all, DRAM is very pleased to announce that you can FINALLY get an individual subscription to the database. After years of only being available to universities and public libraries, we've finally figured out a way to allow the average joe or josie get their hands on 3, 6, or 12 months of unlimited streaming music by composers like Robert Ashley, Morton Feldman, Michael Pisaro, and James Tenney (and many more on our over 3,000 recordings and counting).
    - But with a link to the dead webpage.
  • Also says that subscriptions are tax-deductible, making this an easy decision for those of us in the States. Now if only the get the SoundAmerican site back up! They specifically mentioned that staff was very small.

It's up again. I think I'm going to give this a spin, esp as there are several avant-garde jazz labels...incl Anthony Braxton's Tricentric Foundation.
