zg linked a billboard article on the message board. alongside the article is a poll question. the early returns (20 votes) were telling imho.

    I had to vote 'maybe'. For the most part I think emerging artists are lost in the ocean just like they were before and it takes a good fisherperson to find them. That said, there are exceptions where someone was able to generate buzz through a myspace page (e.g. Lily Allen) or through leaked files of unreleased songs (e.g. Grizzly Bear) that aided them substantially in breaking through.

    That page is all messed up on my Mac Firefox. It displays OK in FIrefox and shows the poll. I voted No.
