northern soul
I was picking the youngest up from his day out, when on the radio came three Northern soul records. They were bloody tops.
The closest I came to the Wigan life was Walton Hop.
Knocking on 50 now and I'm trying to fill the gaps, stuff I know but don't have (a brief aside..I'm looking at the Zombies on emu,and have bagged some early Faces from Amazon)
Are there any old soul lovers with recommendations?
xtrev,any faves from Reading Mecca?

I think the nearest the Mecca got to soul was if some of the wrinkly Bingo players popped their clogs.
I picked up a great Northern Soul compilation in the late lamented local Fopp a few years back.
I think it was this one, but I'll check when I get home.
My top tip for Northern Soul is to buy the stuff you've never heard of - nearly always just as good as the more famous 'hits' that appear on some comps.
It's not often I go with the emu recommendations but (a quick rescue of a wolf spider over) the Wheedles Groove cd is bloody great. Some of the group names/tracks are fantastic.
