i can no longer begin threads, post or even edit over there. if anyone would sink low enough to give the tiniest little bump to this thread, i would gladly give 25 imaginary np's.
@thom - nobody touched my cheerios, except my two year old, who's convinced my cheerios are better than his cheerios.
@Daytripper - yes. so anyway does anybody have any opinions on Album by Girls? I saw a lot of hype in all the hype places, and really it drove me a bit crazy. Every time I see a picture of them I feel a bit like punching somebody. When I saw this picture on 17 dots I actually did walk away from my computer and punch the first person I saw and now I need a good lawyer... And I'm sick of the backstory. I mean who wasn't raised in a cult at this point? But the thing is for some odd crazy reason I got Album anyway. And I think I really like it. It's nice and catchy and good and sad and just right. So I kind-of hate the band but kind-of love the album. Anybody else?
well what do you know, when I logged in today I got an offer!
24 per month for $11.99, 75 free:
This is a special limited time offer only for prior eMusic members, good only until November 2, 2009. And remember, if you're not happy with the service, you can cancel any time online and the songs you've downloaded are yours to keep.
I've been waiting for an offer, and I give full credit to the re-awakening of the mystical RIP-OFF!!! thread to bringing this one about. Thanks MadFish!
Your attitude bums me out. You go out of your way to create a fuss on the other message board (which would be one thing if it was just you doing it, but you're encouraging others to join in), which, I guess, is because you think eMusic sucks, for whatever reason. I guess I get that. There have been a lot of changes that were not handled very well, but why make it even less fun for those who decided to stick around?
And while I get why you took the 99 songs for 11.99 (it's a great deal), to then act all smug about it seems pretty low to me. You know the artists don't get paid for those 75 songs and you clearly aren't doing it because you like eMusic as a business that you're thinking about rejoining so I find the action confusing. Why not just quietly (or, at least, politely) take your songs? Do you have to be rude about it too?
I hope this doesn't sound like I'm attacking you. And I'm not sure if this is going to result in a lot of people calling me a jerk or whatever. I'm just trying to understand your attitude and explain why your actions make both boards less fun for me. I come to share deals (which, increasingly seem to be found more on Amie Street, but some are still on eMusic) and talk about music I love. And if I'm the one missing the point, maybe it's me who should keep quiet.
I think you're misreading me. That RIP-OFF thread felt like my last attachment to the fun I had on the message boards and I was a little sad about it disappearing. I don't really think about it as creating a fuss i was just trying to save my emusic character from disappearing. most people who aren't interested in that thread know enough to ignore it.
then I also found it a little depressing that I wasn't getting a "come back" offer. I thought I was a pretty good customer; I stuck up for emusic all the time, I made recs that even people like Joe and Yancey found interesting (usually by my other persona at 17dots), but I thought maybe I was somehow blacklisted from a "come back" offer because I was too vocal in complaining about the changes.
and the thing is I missed out on all the loyalty bonus stuff even though I was a loyal customer for 3.5 years, and really a very rabid emusic supporter/defender up until the changes, because I happened to quit just right before the loyalty bonus came out. and so I felt like I couldn't just crawl back without some sort of offer.
and I think it was pretty lame of emusic to bar ex-members from the message boards. sure it's their right, but it's just really kind-of dumb because people who can participate over there are more likely to reconsider and come back on board.
and I didn't mean to be smug - smug in my opinion would be a guy who was over there bragging about getting and taking multiple take back offers and then leaving again and waiting for more - I am happy to have gotten my come back offer, and I'm seriously considering going back and staying back. (oh and I didn't take the 99 for $11.99 yet - I'm still considering.)
so I wasn't meaning to be smug about getting a come back offer. I was happy to have finally gotten it. and I thought it was pretty funny that it finally popped
I don't really think emusic sucks. I don't think you're a jerk. I do like to see and put up goofy shit on both message boards that's not about music because it's fun.
Well, count me bummed when I checked in over there and that *#@ RIP OFF thread was back on the top. It's just the idea of seeing it there. It represents all the things I don't like about message boards in general.
Casting no aspersions here. Just stating my own personal idiosyncrasies.

Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, I'm shilling for eMu again!
You know the artists don't get paid for those 75 songs
Does anyone know this for sure? I'm just curious, because we've operated under a number of assumptions and I wasn't sure if anything like that had been confirmed. From my understanding, they divvy the money up amongst whatever is d/l'd that month. Do they definitely exclude freebies?
But do the math. They have been handing out free downloads left right and center for past 60 days or so. Would they do that if there were real money involved.

I have to agree with you. Rip off rants on eMusic just about generate themselves. I barely look on the eMu forum since this one took off.

How about making it into number 666 ?
- Seems like an appropriate number for this thread.
