iTunes not letting indie labels do the so called LP thing

edited October 2009 in General
Does it even matter?

I use iTunes mainly because I have a Mac and an iPod. I rarely buy any music on iTunes any more.

Brief article on ilounge.

  • Interesting! I'd like to try an iTunes LP, but I'm waiting for one I really, really want before plunking down the money.
A big problem is searching the store for iTunes LP offerings....there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. I did find an iTunes LP page, but it only listed about a dozen.

    According to that article,
Allegedly, not only did the sales rep claim that iTunes LP will not be offered to independent labels,

I'd have to say the stress is on the word "allegedly". There is an iTunes LP for Peter Gabriel's So, and it's copyright Peter Gabriel Ltd. Wouldn't that be an indie label?

Oh - the "allegedly" came from this link in the iLounge article....if you click on the words charging a handsome production fee at iLounge.

That story is followed by a fast denial. Then again it doesn't matter to me, the only things I am buying on iTunes are kids shows for my daughter (PBS ftw!).
  • Thanks for the article additions/ updates.
