Free credit at Amazon (CMA Awards related?)

edited November 2009 in General
Use code CMAAWARD and you'll get $1.29 which, according to the promotion, is for one track by a CMA Award nominated artist. However, it looks to me like a plain old credit that can be used for any track. Haven't tried it yet and it expires the 22nd. Report back if you have any luck with a non-CMA track. (There isn't a thing on their list you could pay me to download.)

EDIT for fumble finger typing. (Thanks Katrina!)

Side note: the code is not plural - it's CMAAWARD.

Now, to choose before the 22nd!
  • Ah, remember the halcyon days of eMu when Taylor Swift topped the charts?
  • Yes. I helped put her there. Even bought the second album from Amazon. I happen to think this youngster has many talents, not the least of which is knowing how to promote herself and put on a good show. No apologies from me for liking her!

Local radio hosts who cover the music scene have met her in Nashville and here when she played the State Fair this year. They thought she was quite special, both as a person and as a musician.
  • Yeah, I'm not sure if I want to get something of her "Fearless" album or some Brad Paisley.
  • RE: Taylor Swift. I recently had the chance to work with the main engineer who does sound for Saturday Night Live. (I'm a recording engineer.) He happened to mention two female singers that stood out in his mind as musical guests, one good one bad. One was Christine Aguleria, the other was Taylor Swift. I'll let you guess which was which, but I will mention the bad one he said has a really weak voice and there's a lot of post processing involved with her. The good one can really sing, apparently.

With all due respect to the youngster above I have never gotten what the fuss was about - I did DL one song from that album back when it was on eMu out of curiosity, and the rest of my opinion was based on various live appearances which seemed weak. As to Christina my wife had an odd hankering for Back To Basics which I indulged in the purchase of the CD, and though I knew from seeing her live on TV that she could in fact really sing, I was really pleasantly surprised what a good album it was overall - strong vocals and a sense of musical history that is sadly lacking in a lot of the younger generation.

And as for the CMA roster, Brad Paisley is A-OK in my book.
  • I'll let you guess which was which,
    Aw, c'mon, spit it out.
How can this be? I have no Christina Aguilera? Hmm, thought I did.
  • I will agree that Taylor Swift can't belt out a song, but a strong (or weak) voice has nothing to do with the reason I like her.

I love that we don't all like the same music here. I have tried some of the music heralded here, and I just don't get it. It's loud, raucous, and my ears rebel. I have, however, sometimes found an artist I like that I would probably never have tried if not for other posters writing of their love for it.

I don't have any Christina, but I have seen her on TV shows. I don't dislike her music, but I don't like it well enough to buy it, either.
  • Apparently I don't, either. There is one Aguilera track from a Grammy 2008 compilation in my iTunes, and that's it. "Candyman". Just played it...meh.
  • Sorry if I sounded like I was pissing on anyone's musical tastes. I realized after I wrote that, it may have sounded that was.
  • No worries, CaptainWrong. I think we are all immune here to worrying if we are listening to the 'right' stuff. I suppose my comment about 'halycon days' could also be taken as snide...but if you click on the link, she's one of the choices I have, thanks to you!
  • Thanks! I'll check that out.

For the CMA free code, I am torn between
Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby (Featuring Alison Krauss)
    Carrie Underwood - Cowboy Casanova
Billy Currington - People Are Crazy
Jake Owen - Eight Second Ride
Kenny Chesney - I'm Alive (with Dave Matthews)

Well, rats, I never could get this to work (even before the expiration date).
