why?

I look at this from Tiny Mix Tapes today and I wonder: Given that it just keeps getting easier and easier and easier for people to illegally get music for free, why would a company with lots of customers happy to spend lots of money for legal downloads think that it's a good strategy to jack up prices in this economy and in the face of the ever-expanding data free-for-all? And why do the labels, especially majors, not realize that the high prices they set incentivise stealing?

Why?

I know, I know, it's all been said before, and I'm supposed to be over it by now, and I am over it. But there's constant little reminders of what a ruined good thing emu is.

Because the record industry still believes that the opposite of music piracy is buying music, when we all know that, by and large, the opposite of music piracy is not buying music.
