cable v. dsl
i have comcast broadband + recently dropped their tv cable offering as it was just too little for too much. in turn, they are upping my internet rate as i'm no longer bundled.
i use vonage and am ok with the service (have had it for about 7 years). however, it is something i can lop off and get a promo bundle from someone like at + t for home phone and internet service. the rate being lower than comcast by about 15 $ a month.
my issue is = will i be happy with 3.0 mbps transfer with at + t dsl after having broadband for so long?
thoughts?
and, o, what the hell did frogkopf buy for his flat screen???

@amclark We dumped TV all together and make up for it by streaming from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and MLB.tv and for our daughter we often buy kids shows on iTunes. We've been doing it for the past year now and have no plans at all to ever go back to a TV subscription again since the value proposition is hard to beat. (shameless plug for anyone interested in what we did)
I'm keeping an eye on Best Buy for one that I can add a few things to and bump up to slightly over $1000, so that I can use their money interest free for 3 years.
0 interest is tough to beat. but you have to figure they are just playing the float on all the cash they get for their gift cards on the front end and back-ending it to you with no interest financing.
i'm going to try and keep the broadband service...i'll call and see if they have any retention programs. stay tuned.
funny in the context of this conversation - "tuned" seems about as dead as "dialed" or "clicker" or "cd" or "record store" (well no I guess a lot of record stores do sell records again now so that one's revived somewhat).
how bout we stay tweeted?
i started with a tv-centric allusion so i had to end with one.
by the way, y'er freakin' making me blink/fritz emoticon meself with the trolliday thread. you've pulled out about 3 things i was set to use - exactly as you used them. clink.
It has been flurrying here since last night, but the ground is still too warm for anything to stick. Such a weird fall.
Too bad you ditched the cable tv. Every year my mom calls Comcast and threatens to take their TV/phone/internet to Qwest/DirecTV if they don't get a better deal, and every year she gets an awesome deal. What Comcast doesn't know is that my dad will never allow a dish to be on his house, so it's an empty threat.

I'll put my payments on auto-pay minimum for the first 2 1/2 years and pay it off in the last months. The money I would have paid, will be going to an interest bearing account, so it's like I'm making the interest on them (vs paying up, front that is).
Twitter is something I still have no use for. Why do people think every belch, fart, and nose blow is worthy of alerting the rest of the world to?
re; dishes: I bought a house with a dish on it; have never used it and have no intention of ever using it; but haven't gotten around to getting rid of it.
Am currently listening to Spoon - Kill the Moonlight. Album rocks.
POSERS!!!!!!!!!
I'm torn over whether to sell the PS3 or keep it (I'll probably keep it). I only got 18 months interest free (apparently the TV alone has to be $1000 or more to qualify for 3 yrs). No problem, my savings account should 5k richer by the time the final payment comes due, providing I don't have to raid it again.
/edit: crickey! his street cred is too strong...i just went out and bought a huge flat screen tv even tho i only needed a monitor.
pssst. isn't the ps3 a blu-ray device? i guess you can play dvd's thru it, no? if so, sell the dvd player. elwoodicioous is the gamer - nubb up wiff him and get the dope.
