GRRRRR!!!!!! Cashing in Amie RECs

edited January 2010 in General
Anyone else find cashing in RECs at Amie Street highly annoying? I don't know if it's poor web page design, an attempt to dissuade user from cashing in RECs, or a combination of the two.

Here's the email I sent to Amie:

Your "View REC's I can cash out" doesn't work for me. I continually get served up a blank page (this has been happening for several months now).

As a result, I have to manually go to the page where the RECs are available (this often takes a dozen or more clicks).

For instance when I look at page one of My RECs, I have the option of going to pages 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,258. If I need to go to page 30, it takes me 12 clicks on the bottom page links to get there (clicking 7,9,11,13,15, etc...). To get to page 125, it takes me in the neighborhood of 70 clicks to get there. When I finally do get there, if I cash in a REC, I'm shunted back to page one and the process starts all over again.

I realize that you can substitute the page number in the URL address bar, but that it still a pain to do over and over again and shouldn't be necessary.

I have several suggestions:

(1) Allow the user to view 50 or 100 RECs per page instead of 5 RECs per page.

(2) Allow the User to sort RECs by (a)date - both by oldest/newest (b) track price (c) current cash out price.

(3) When the user cashes in a REC, return the user to the page they were on prior to cashing the REC in, not back to page one.

Thanks.

  • "View REC's I can cash out" has been working for me, I just picked out a few that had hit $0.98 last night. Finding a group over again after each cash-in is a pain.
  • I haven't had any issues. When I click on the 'recs I can cash out' link it displays all my cashable recs on a single page and it looks like I have around 300+ uncashed recs at the moment. My guess is that the reason you are getting a blank page on this particular screen (and have to resort to your alternative cashing method) is that you've got more uncashed recs than that page was designed to properly accommodate.

Other than, that I love your suggestions to making the 'my recs' screen more user-friendly.
  • I'm guessing that in my case I have so many to cash out and that causes problems for their site - that shouldn't happen, but apparently it does.

My current work around is to find the page the RECs are on, copy the url, open several tabs, paste URL, and do each REC in it's own tab. It's still a lot of work, because you have to repeat the process every 5 RECs.
  • Yeah, no probs with the cashout page here, either. I have a few dozen...just cashed some this morning to get enough dough for the new Frank Fairfield. When it comes to Amie recs, I think you are the frog that broke the bank!
  • It must be associated with your number of RECs. I've also never had a problem.

  • It's not easy being the king....
  • I find it frustrating, and didn't know you could even do five at a time. I usually just cash the ones that I think have topped out (nearly 98 cents), then use Firefox's "find" to get to the band's line once again. Takes forever, which is what I tend to carry lot of recs.
  • My work around is to find a page with RECs.
    Ctrl +C the URL
    Ctrl +T (new tab)
    Ctrl +V (paste)
    Enter
    Repeat 5 times

Close tabs once the RECs have been cashed in
Go to the next page of RECs, repeat.
  • I cashed in about 150 RECs - now the whole "RECs you can cash out" page seems to be loading properly. The aforementioned method of cashing in RECs 5 at a time seems to be much faster than using the whole page.

They really should allow you to check a box next to each REC and cash in multiple items at once.
  • They should also allow you to initially REC multiple items at once. It's a pain to REC each song on an album individually.

  • >They should also allow you to initially REC multiple items at once

I think they'll never allow that, since you would be able to mass rec a great album and make too much credit. The slowness of the system helps keep the amount the give away a bot lower.
  • I agree. It's in their best interest to make as many people as possible scramble for the REC money. Otherwise, the same 10 of us would make all the REC money (instead of the same 25 of us, as now).
  • speaking of recs, no idea what this is but it's on Matador so it will go up - I have no recs left but enjoy...
  • And it looks like we still have Sony to thank for something!
  • Oh, frogkopf. Such silly RECs.

I wonder how long The Big Pink is going to keep putting topless chicks on the cover of their albums.

    Craig
  • That's the best REC I've ever read.
  • P.S. I just tied it all up again!
  • If you think that's the best, you missed the dueling RECs for "Pony Whinny".

What did you REC? I don't think I got any notices.

    Craig
  • Yeah but, I'm kicking ass on that mangy mutt. I'm now about 7K ahead of the wild eye lab.

I did give it props, though.
  • Nothing special - just a couple tracks from these Matador albums and misc. singles that dropped. Bettie Serveert is the prototypical Amie freebie for me - a band I've always been intrigued by, but never enough to invest any money.

Had I had the chance, I would have REC'd more of that Modernist album. So far it sounds really good.
