More Intakt titles on the way!

edited January 2010 in Jazz
Sent Intakt an e-mail this week asking when more of their catalog would be available for download. Here's the reply:

"thanks a lot for your interest in our downloadable albums. we will make our backcatalog available as download step by step.

"we have a list of all available albums with direct links to several stores: http://www.intaktrec.ch/download-a.htm

"the next 2-3 weeks there will be added some more albums. which will be:
Lonelyville (Sylvie Courvoisier)
The Compass, Log and Lead (Fred Firth)
11 Songs – Aus Teutschen Landen (Zentralquartett)
Cutter Heads (Fred Frith & Chris Brown)
DIE ENTTÄUSCHUNG (self-titled... 2007 release)
First Choice - Piano Solo KKL Luzern (Irène Schweizer)
Loops, Holes & Angels (Co Streiff Sextet)
Quartette (Ulrich Gumpert)
Solo Willisau (Anthony Braxton)
Tales from 30 Unintentional Nights (Koch Schütz Studer)
Urumchi (Saadet Türköz)
Wisdom in Time (Wadada Leo Smith & Günter Baby Sommer)

"Kind regards
George Bauer, Intaktrecords-Staff"

These are 2006 & 2007 releases. Amazon says they'll be available on February third. I'm especially interested in the Die Enttauschung title. I'm sure I won't be disappointed (pun intended).

And I can't wait to start wading through the rest of that back catalog. I've been lusting for a copy of Alexander von Schlippenbach's epic "Monk's Casino," its not in this batch... so I may just have to shell out some bucks for a hard copy.

  • Thank you !

A lot of "bell ringing" names here, such as:
    David Moss
    Tom Cora
    Eugene Chadbourne
    Lindsay Cooper
    Chris Cutler
    Zeena Parkins
    Lotte Anker
    - Just to mention a few from their musicians list

    - And a look at the catalogue of 169 albums is interesting reading.

    BTW:
Do you know it's possible to RSS feed subschribe to specific eMu label pages ?

    Edit:
Auf der Elbe schwimmt ein rosa Krokodil - Quite catchy album title ;-)
  • The first 2 additions:

    DIE ENTT

Yeah, these are late 2009 releases, not mentioned in the e-mail. I have Die Enttauschung 5 and it is amazing! These guys have been playing together for 15 years. They started out learning the entire Monk songbook and performed with Schlippenbach on "Monk's Casino." Now, they're doing original stuff in a pianoless quartet (trumpet / bass clarinet) mode that Downbeat described as reminiscent of early Ornette and the Eric Dolphy / Booker Little sessions. Also reminds me of Mostly Other People Do the Killing (obviously), but with a more "mature" sound.

And while we're at it, We Are One by Louis Moholo-Moholo and Marilyn Crispell is a terrific set of drum / piano duets that are more aggressive than Crispell's recent work on ECM.

If you're a Fred Frith fan you may by interested in Unsquare by Maybe Monday. I listened to it this morning and found it rather amusing... but it may be an acquired taste.

I also know 40 Years by the Globe Unity Orchestra, This Time by Trio 3 + Geri Allen, and Phases of the Night by Barry Guy and Marilyn Crispell have all received glowing reviews; but I haven't dug into them yet.
  • Here's another good one: Furioso by the Jurg Wickihalder Overseas Quartett. Rising new talent and a fun listen.

Downloaded This Time by Trio 3 + Gerri Allen last night. This one's a no brainer: Oliver Lake, Reggie Workman, and Andrew Cyrille. Sweet! I should have grabbed it months ago.
  • I dropped Intakt another e-mail last week asked about when new titles would drop here. Here's the reply:

    "Dear John,
unfortunately it takes ages until the our releases show up on emusic.com. This seems a specific problem of emusic. The suggested release below are allready now available on Itunes / Amazon MP3 ect., but it will may takes 2-3 months until they show up on emusic.

PS: I just updated our list of all available downloadable albums with direct links to several stores:

    Kind regards
    George Bauer"
  • "This seems a specific problem of emusic."

    ::sigh::

How utterly unsurprising and frustrating at the same time.
  • I suspect this has something to do with the middle-man Intakt uses to distribute its digital releases. My guess is that they delay release to eMusic to give the sales advantage to the "full-price" stores. (I've already grabbed Sylvie Courvoisier's Lonelyville and DIE ENTT
