eMu annual price drop

edited May 2010 in General
Looks like eMu has dropped their 24 credit annual plan down to $99.99. If you add in the 100 freebies good for 30 days, you total 388 credits - about 26 cents a track.

Pretty tempting and cheaper than the last round of BB booster cards.

  • Thanks for the heads up. That might just be a "good" financial move for me.
  • Yeah, and if you figure the seventy five buy back for a month at twelve bucks, then you upgrade to the annual, you're looking $112 for 487 downloads over 12 or so months. That's about twenty three cents. The only problem is you got to buy most of the songs up front. Here's dreaming they had a way you could sit on credits for half a year instead of going deep into those back catalogs.
  • OK, why am I not seeing the annual option? Is it because I'm on a non-standard plan?
  • The only annual options I see, now or ever, are 24/month or 35/month. I'm on a non-standard 50, so the attraction of dropping even lower has been limited.
  • There should be a "show me more plans" link to expand the list of plans available. It's working for both my active accounts, both of which are on non-standard plans. Here's a copy and paste of what I see:

    eMusic Lite 12 (every 30 days) $6.49 $0.54
    eMusic Basic 24 (every 30 days) $11.99 $0.50
    eMusic Plus Recommended 35 (every 30 days) $15.89 $0.45
    eMusic Premium 50 (every 30 days) $20.79 $0.42
    eMusic Connoisseur 75 (every 30 days) $30.99 $0.41
    eMusic Connoisseur 100 (every 30 days) $40.99 $0.41
    eMusic Connoisseur 200 (every 30 days) $79.99 $0.40
    eMusic 60 Quarterly 60 (every 90 days) $28.99 $0.48
    eMusic 120 Quarterly 120 (every 90 days) $52.99 $0.44
    eMusic Bi-Annual 210 210 (every 180 days) $95.90 $0.46
    eMusic Basic Annual 24 (every 30 days) $99.99 $0.35
30% discount PLUS an extra 100 FREE downloads**
    eMusic Plus Annual 35 (every 30 days) $151.99 $0.36
20% discount PLUS an extra 100 FREE downloads**
  • Odd that spending more (annual 35) is put at a higher rate than the 24.
  • Just in time to dump Lamewire.
  • karg, I noticed that too. I wondered if part of the goal was to lure us old grandpas off our nonstandard plans. Or is that giving them too much credit? Even after 2 years, the annual plan is a far better deal...0.29 per track! Not to mention they could yank my grandfathered plan at any time. Getting harder to talk myself out of this...of course, if you go annual, you're assuming eMu is going to be around next year!
  • BT, are you displeased with your limewire sub? (Assuming from your comment you have one.) I was thinking about doing emu + limewire as a reasonable substitute for my current grandfathered emu 90 plan, but hadn't looked deeply at the limewire catalog yet.
  • kargatron -

That's exactly what I plan to do. It's a solid deal at emu again, but 24 dls a month isn't much new music. Add in 75 from LW at twenty bucks every other month, plus all the freebies from emu, and that should sedate my ears. LW comes down to whether or not you dig the back catalogs of the labels they do have.
  • Kargatron,

Since I don't pick up many of the popular alternative albums (save those I snag off Amie), I've found Limewire frustrating. It's good for the 10+ minute tracks that would send an album on eMu to 12 credits. Finding anything can be challenging, and browsing the catalog is unsatisfying. I even let some of my intro credits lapse--I just didn't feel motivated to look for something. At $100 for an annual, eMu's prices are now cheaper than Limewire's without taking the bonus credits into account. Right now I'm finishing out the month by picking up longer tracks from Dacapo and Innova.
  • If my job lasts a few more weeks with overtime, I might be in!
  • I wonder if this is a sale or a permanent price change. Moving to the 24 dl after being on 75 for a few years has been tough, but with some buying music elsewhere, has been a way for me to listen more to what I already have, though it's still addicting to finding more and more music to add to SFL. The booster sale (50 for $19.99) is some help or maybe not.
