Ah yes, I remember as a kid driving to my grandparents in Tennessee and going through Louisville and past the Red Birds stadium. I didn't realize they had a new name. Too bad, Red Birds is classic. I guess Bats for Louisville isn't too bad though.
The Bats started out as River Bats -- result of a contest to name the team. A kid won, and the name was a play on words (new stadium on the Ohio River, winged bats, baseball bats). It was eventually shortened to Bats, still quite fitting since Hillerich & Bradsby, home of the Louisville Slugger, is only a few blocks from the stadium.
i've driven thru louisville 2x of late - and it looks like a neat city...we went to mammoth caves + nashville for spring break - then down to savannah for a family wedding in may. remind me to catch up with you for family things to do in the area.
I've said this on the eMusic message boards (repeatedly, I'm afraid), but I'm staying with eMusic. Here's my strategy: I've been buying a lot of Best Buy cards, and gorging on the Sony catalogue. That makes the per-track download cost roughly .33. Once I'm done, I'll use my new plan (the Connoisseur Plan; 100 DL a month for $40.00) to go back to indie-label purchases. I'm sure they'll be times when I want to download a Sony title on my regular plan, but I'll have a lot of what I would want from Sony already downloaded by the time I'm done with the Best Buy cards.
Some of you might remember me as Blues_Hound. 68...er...Brittleblood told me about this board so I'm all signed up and ready to bitch.
I've been off of Emusic since the end of 2008 now. Spending most of the time researching for my music blog which is where I'm getting my music from, plus buying the occasional CD. I still have tons of albums from eMusic. However, if I didn't leave in 2008, I would have left during the latest makeover. The cost would have been too much for what you get and I don't think their move into commercial music, aka the Sony catalog makes up for the gradual raise in prices. They may have not made the move in the best customer services style. That would be the norm for Emusic. But I also think it was inevitable. As far as I know, Emusic has never been a profit maker. The main regret may be Emusic will eventually become just another music site and no longer the champion of independent music.
Oh yeah, lot of old names here, Hi Katrina, Mommio, Notasonata, Xtrev, Billyjoebobb, Jackedupjazz, Frogkopf and everyone else that I missed from at the Emusic board.
Hi, Blues Hound. I'm still at eMu, at least until my annual runs out in October. I'm still unsure about after that. Thank you for the blog. Good stuff.
