Great ALB giveaway

I know that Audio Lunchbox has a dicey reputation, but there are some awesome deals there:

About 70-80 Naxos albums going for 1 credit. Probably a mistake, but they have been that way for a year, and I've downloaded about 20 of them and they all seem fine. Best way to find them is to type in a Composer's name. and the browse the list by album title. Lots of Haydn, Grieg, Brahm, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc...

Lots of those cheesy public domain (in Europe) box sets going for 10 credits - some of them 10 disc sets. One caveat - some of them are not full sets, but instead have several copies of disc one ripped over and over with different song titles. The tip off on these are that all track 1s will have different names, but the same track duration, same with all track 2s, etc.

Lots of double albums going for 10 credits - check out Burning Spear, VP records comps (Randy's, George Phang).

Lots of 20ish track Reggae albums.

Several albums by Madlib, J Dilla, etc. are 10 credits (looks like there are now 12 credits on eMu too)

Lots of Jazz with High track counts - Art Peper, Sonny Rollins

A one month Diamond subscription will get you 125 tracks for $24.99 plus an extra 50 bonus tracks.

If you see anything else good there. Post it here.

  • Links? Because last time I looked, that site was a mess to navigate.
  • Too much work to search and provide links, but here's a tip - search by keyword and then browse by album title. Searching by artist,
composer, or anything else is worthless.

For the Naxos do a keyword search for the Composer and then browse the titles, there are several pages, but it only take about 20 seconds to scan a page.

    For the other do likewise.
  • I got something like 800 tracks for my 25 bucks doing this....
  • FW: can you cherry pick some things for me? i tend to like strings - evoking tranquility, loss, reflection, despair and on occassion betrayal, sinister, etc.

cello...violin: both have allure to me.

    piano: begot elton john
    violin: begot the ahn sisters
  • I've downloaded some double albums by Lana Lane and by her husband Erik Norlander, who normally plays keyboards on her albums. They both do progressive rock, sounding something like Heart with Keith Emerson on keyboards. Norlander came to my attention when I read that he replaced Geoff Downes in Asia, featuring John Payne. If you're into progressive rock, the Magna Carta label is worth checking out. I first discovered this label through their tribute album to Yes, which is not on Audio Lunchbox. Their only tribute album presently on Audio Lunchbox is Subdivisions: A Tribute to Rush. The attribution of the album to one artist is an error.
  • Here are some economical and great-sounding albums of Bach's music that I have gotten from Audio Lunchbox:

Goldberg Variations/J.S. Bach performed by Pnina B. Becher on the piano

Bach cello 6 suites (double disc) by Nicolas Deletaille

The Well-Tempered Clavier performed by Frank French on the piano

The Art of Fugue performed by the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet on recorders

BACH: Complete Music for Solo Violin (2-CD set) performed by Joseph Silverstein

Here's the full set of Beethoven's cello sonatas for 10 credits. I have passed it by only because I already have another recording of the cello sonatas.

Beethoven 5 cello sonatas (double disc) by Nicolas Deletaille (cello) and Jean-Michel Dayez (piano)

I already knew about some of these, but I wasn't aware of how widespread this was. I previously picked up Haydn albums for 1 credit each, because I've been working on building a huge Haydn collection. I have passed up the Beethoven symphonies for 1 credit each, because I already have multiple recording of all his symphonies. I have also passed on Mozart, because I own a box set of his complete works, though I'm tempted by the fact that several are Jeno Jando recordings, and everything I've heard from him is top-notch. For today, I have purchased and downloaded six albums of Bach's orchestral works and eight albums of Rachmaninov's piano music, and I plan to listen to it all over the course of the next few weeks. I'm considering getting a few albums of Vivaldi's concertos, but I already have enough recordings of the Four Seasons, and the other cheap Vivaldi albums may be of works I already own recordings of.

Would you elaborate on this? What you've written here doesn't give me any leads on what to search for.

Maybe I'll have another look. I had a Jando in my SFL and it is less than 12 tracks, but now costs 12 credits.
