confused: thank you sir and thank you Brighternow!

any kind of support is welcomed in these troubled times:
posting about our music on any kind of media/social media,
sharing with ppl that you think will like our sound realms,
donating pizza money or half of your inheritance via Bandcamp,
    writing a small delirious review,
    feedback on us with anything,
sharing our music with festival/concert organisers,
sharing our music with video artists/film makers that could want to use our sounds
    etc
    :)

  • Here's an excellent review by hibernating Emuser @Rudie . aka. Albert E. Trapezoid:

Well, I did it…I finally found one good thing about 2020…Makunouchi Bento has released two albums. Earlier this year it was “Ghostophonia,” and now we get what “could be the soundtrack for the imaginary sequel of Bodrog.” But even if this new one, “Drowned in Bodrog,” is a sequel, you don’t need to know anything about its inspiration to enjoy this one.

The first track “Across Irradiated Furnace Suns” is a good example of what you’ll get throughout this album, and an example of what Makunouchi Bento does so well. On the surface something seems slightly off kilter, like a malfunctioning music player. But there are also layers of slightly unsettling sound vying for your attention. In this song, I also like some of the random synth keys; it felt like Sun Ra sending messages from outer space. For the rest of this album you’ll catch quite a variety of noises, including little rhythm breaks, piano melodies, slight tension, lost signals, and probably ghosts. They even include a long track at the end that is a mix of the entire album, in case you want to listen without any interruption; I think it would be an excellent soundtrack for a walk on a quiet night.

At this point, the Makunouchi Bento boys (Felix Petrescu and Valentin Toma) have proven they are absolute masters of their craft, consistently creating fascinating and captivating soundscapes.

    - Oh yes !

  • Today, we celebrate 20 years of Makunouchi Bento! We would have planned an anniversary concert on this date, but unfortunately 2020 had different plans. So instead, we're releasing our new website, made by our fantastic friend and long-time collaborator Santiago J. Franzani. We've created the most comprehensive guide to our activity in these 20 years: biography and pictures, complete discography (132 releases, all fully detailed), reviews, articles and interviews, the past gigs with all the nice memories they've left behind, including photos and videos, plus links to all our social media and streaming platform pages. Enjoy your trip!

    32 minutes of new stories
will be out soon (13 april)

the release falls into musique concrete category maybe.
we used a lot of field recordings from our city (trains, cars, horns, etc)
to build natural-ish yet eerie soundscapes.
i'll post here when it will be available.
( audio part done but our friend Santiago makes a video for it...)

  • and here it is
made out of local field recording (Timisoara) + some extra exotic birds.
video by our good friend Santiago Franzani.
audio will be avail on our Bandcamp free in 1 week.
( mind you, audio could be listenable on its own:)

  • Post-Muzica 34 is now available on Bandcamp too, for those who want to focus on the sound. Download it for free, to enjoy it at a better audio quality, streaming on Bandcamp won't do it justice.

  • djh: I had a garden at grandparents village in childhood summers. that ment a lot to me and I guess is reflected in my music...:) and nowadays I stroll daily through a neighbourhood that looks/feels like a village and it helps my serenity...;) substitutes and fixes keeps one not going insane... urban life sucks :)
  • dunno if I shared it before but
I'm very passionate about short animations:)

Well, with your good news comes some sad news. We've recently found out our good friend @Brighternow passed away after a short illness a while back. He was one of your biggest fans and without him we might have never been introduced to you. You folks will always remind me of him and for that I'm truly grateful.
     Sad News thread.

makunouchi bento - Saloane SCRUM (EP)

Many, many years ago, not long after we embarked on the experiment known as Makunouchi Bento, someone described our music as “music to set fire to your Christmas tree.” We suspect it wasn’t meant as a compliment, but that’s exactly how we chose to take it. For the first time, we’ve let those words kindle our inspiration. This EP is precisely that: “music to set fire to your Christmas tree.” Romanians, perhaps, will understand the title best.
