  • @peterfrederics : it was actually my 3rd Boris show! 😬; 2008 at Pitchfork, where I had a backstage pass and saw Wata walking by herself in one of the backlots…

Then last year, which was great because I brought my kid,

And then 2023, in Albany, with Melvins! Boris was playing Heavy Rocks 2002, and Melvins were playing Bullhead, which of course has the song Boris…

They’re touring Pink this year; I don’t think I’m going to make it though. :( But the Pink t-shirts and vinyls they’re selling now look pretty good; I might have to get on or both to make up for not making the show:

  • (Oh currently listening to Diary of a Madman, RIP Ozzy; sorry to admit this may be my first listen of this album, although I know some of the songs from Randy Rhoads Tribute…)
  • @peterfrederics - thanks for that. I had the album at one time...added to AM for an afternoon listen!
  • Thee Oh Sees - The Cool Death of Island Raiders

especially “Drone Number One” “We Are Free” and “Drone Number Two”

I keep trying to tell myself lately that I can’t listen to all the music, but there are just so many cool things out there that you never come across unless you try to listen to all the music. (This is part of my attempt lately to slowly crawl through all the John Dwyer discography, after listening to him on an old WTF podcast…)

@greg "Super Session" is one of my favourites from that era.

Another favourite is an earlier incarnation of Mike Bloomfield when playing on the album "East-West" with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

AMG says "East-West captures a great group in high flight as the bandmembers join together in something even more remarkable than their estimable skills as individuals would suggest, and its importance as a nexus point between rock, blues, jazz, and world music cannot be overestimated."

I got that one at the time too, thanks for the heads up, I'll give it a listen this morning.

  • Another new track from Camel's Andrew Latimer (Link to Bandcamp)
  • Ambrose Field Being Dufay - ECM Records
This still stands out for me many, many years after acquiring it - a wonderful Renaissance/drone mashup. And searching for it to post it here made me realize (i) that it's an ECM record (I got it on emusic before I was paying attention to ECM) and (ii) that it has an additional artist - my emusic version was just tagged "Ambrose Field"!!

    Then:
Field recordings and drones, starts out kind of pastoral then gets darker. 1 Euro.

I'm now quite confused as one is in mp3 and the other CD quality FLAC, neither comes from Bandcamp so mp3 from Emusic and FLAC from???

  • Suzanne Kraft - Talk from Home

The other day I saw someone mowing their lawn in a floppy sun hat and it made me think of this album (because of the cover). Turns out it was released 10 years ago today!

Steven Wilson, founder and leader of my favourite modern Progressive Rock band Porcupine Tree, has a new solo album "The Overview". I will be seeing him perform it live in Melbourne in November.

AMG says "The Overview is a loopy conceptual masterpiece. It ponders the infinitesimally tiny place of humans in the endless space of the universe. There's a lot going on here in composition, performance, and production, but it's always focused, never excessive, and always accessible; in some places, it actually approaches the profound."
