Saw Pavlov's Dog live in Melbourne on Saturday night (see "Rolling How Was The Show Thread"). Their tour is in honour of the 50th anniversary of the release of their first album, "Pampered Menial".
The best known song on the album is "Julia" which was also released as a single.
@Plong42 Also thanks from me, good that The Tooth (did anyone call them that?) have their albums up on Bandcamp. I only know the album with Pierre Henry, so it was nice to have a groove to the first album yesterday. I think one or two might find themselves slipping into the collection.
For Random Radio, I use a list of "Inspirations" that I subject to chance operations. For the Nov. 19th show, emusers was used as the stimulus - and, in this case, I just worked backwards from this, "What Are You Listening To..." thread as the spark or the rolling ball that you follow and guide a bit as it rolls along.
Anyway, you can follow along if you care to at this link. Tunes are announced on the show, but you'll have to wait until after the show airs to actually see them in a list. Also, it's Philip Catherine's 83rd birthday today and he's featured in the set too. Prog guys here should be interested, I think.
Candid Antics,Cease and Desist (link to Bandcamp). This is a local jazz band (Grand Rapids, Michigan) that I have seen at least 6 times now. Their first album was under the name Pocket Watch. As soon as they released their first album under that name, another band already using the name sent them a cease-and-desist letter (hence the album title). Glad I bought a CD at the show, since the album is not available on Bandcamp anymore.
The self-description on Bandcamp: "blending the fusion styles of the 60s and 70s with modern jam bands."
"World Music", the 2012 Progressive/Psychedelic Rock album by Goat.
All Music says "With an unfettered sound influenced by everything from Afrobeat and heavy metal to Anatolian funk and biker rock, Goat are an experimental psychedelic rock band based out of Gothenburg, Sweden. They have received acclaim for their explosive, energetic performances (during which they don elaborate masks and costumes) as well as their albums, including their aptly named 2012 debut World Music, which gathered styles from around the globe in a swirling mix of sound."
Still alive here, just traveling - sitting on a high speed train between Pohang and Seoul right now. Mostly listening to ambient stuff - a few listens to Zake’s recent album Silentium.
Have always enjoyed Lindisfarne.Ended the show two weeks ago with "Furniture" from them. Surprised there were no comments here about last week's show considering its progish leanings. Oh well, people are busy.
Found a little time in the airport lounge in Singapore to post this. Mariusz Duda is a pretty known quantity by now, with a lot of consistent characteristics in his composing and lyric writing across many releases by Riverside and Lunatic Soul. I am not wild about all of those characteristics - the lyrics are not always particularly notable, and an extended first-person mope about how awful life is seems to be a default theme across many albums, but this album continues musically with the propulsive qualities that still draw me back often to its instrumental predecessor, Through Shaded Woods. Overall an enjoyable addition to the canon. Good new prog.
@rostasi really enjoyed Nov 19th Random Radio particularly the Krautrock section and what better way to end than "Silver Cloud" by La Düsseldorf. This was the first time that I heard Krautwerk and Philip Catherine and I really liked both.
As it happens, a couple of months ago, I was fairly close to Silver City when I visited Santa Fe and Taos
@peterfrederics Oh, good! There were actually two bands named Krautwerk - and of course there's Kraftwerk too. I've always loved Silver Cloud - it's quite beautiful really ... and the tune from Catherine was the first tune I'd ever heard from him back in '74 on September Man. Also a lovely one. https://substack.com/home/post/p-177220629
Tonight's show should be up in exactly one hour from now.

Hey good on you for including Quadelectronic on your show! I'm sure the lads would be thrilled if they knew.
"Henki" by Richard Dawson and Finnish band Circle. Ranked no. 11 for 2021 by ProgArchives.
All Music describes this eccentric but enjoyable Progressive/Psychedelic Rock album, as follows "The not-so-disparate worlds of botany and history collide on the likeably outlandish Henki, a self-described "flora-themed hypno-folk-metal" collaboration between English folk provocateur Richard Dawson and Finnish experimental rock veterans Circle. Combining the knotty horror-folk of Comus, the fleet guitarmonies of Iron Maiden, and the lofty art-rock of early Genesis, Henki is a lot. It's also a ton of fun......It's both riveting and ridiculous, but the synergy between the two camps is undebatable. These are wild, protean hard rock songs rooted in psychedelic folk and delivered with Green Man-worthy gusto. What's not to love?"
All tracks taken from the THESIS DRIVE series which asks musicians to
create a long-form composition that could serve as an accompaniment to a
journey. Contributions from William Ryan Fritch, Marcus Fischer, Hotel
Neon, Drombeg, Matthew Collings, Kinbrae, High Plains, Garreth Brooke,
M. Grig, Fiona Brice, Bruno Sanfilippo, Rutger Zuydervelt, Sontag
Shogun, Stijn Hüwels, Light Sleeper, Julia Gjertsen, Mary Lattimore,
Benoît Pioulard, r beny, The Gentleman Losers, Simeon Walker, Lee Yi,
Pepo Galán & Elskavon.
Also just picked up Loula Yorke's whole discography (9 albums) for about $7 on bandcamp (does not include the above album, available separately on DiN). New name to me but a great find. Nice analog synth stuff. This album, Volta, reminds me of some of Caterina Barbieri's material. Recommended.

in the last couple of weeks performing locally, we've had Oasis, Metallica, AC/DC, Crowded House, Pixies, The Church, Bill Frisell Trio and Kokoroko.
Coming up in the next week or two we have, amongst others, Steven Wilson, Lady Gaga, Lenny Kravitz, Opeth, Gilles Peterson and David Gray.
Not saying that they are all my cup of tea but what an array!
Can any of your home towns match Melbourne or perhaps do even better!!??
I haven't played this in a long time. Brings back memories from decades ago!

Even looking at the cover of that album takes me back 55 years plus. The Island label alone means a lot!
