This is a really good album featuring a who's who of Jazz Fusion and Progressive Rock including Rick Wakeman, Al Di Meola, Jah Wobble, Carmine Appice, Jan Akkerman, Chester Thompson, Chris Poland, Fernando Perdomo, Angelo Moore, Bootsy Collins, Brian Jackson, Didier Malherbe, Steve Stevens, Alphonso Johnson, Nik Turner, Jimmy Haslip, Jordan Rudess, Mel Collins, Colin Edwin, Jay Beckenstein, Billy Sheehan, Gavin Harrison, David Sancious, Derek Sherinian and Eric Marienthal.
Really confounded how this one didn't hit my radar all this time. Found this CD in a bargain bin the other day and my eyes lit up. It's really enjoyable.
New from Cantelope Records, Righteous Rage by Rebekah Fawn Heller. "Steve Reich's original 'Cello Counterpoint' is reworked into 'Grand Street Counterpoint' — again, for ten bassoons, with bassoon soloist — with Reich himself collaborating as co-producer."
I tend to think remixing this kind of material is most often a mistake - and there are tracks here I feel that way about. But some of them work quite well.
God I love this album. It was one of the first modern jazz recordings I ever listened to. And while I liked it plenty at the time, I wasn't super-crazy about it either. Over the years, though, my admiration of this album has continued to grow. There isn't a piece on this recording that doesn't run through my system like love.
@Plong42 I picked up Righteous Rage as part of my Cantaloupe sub. Good stuff and the second recording of the Reich piece that I've got from Rebekah Heller.
