Your last Amie purchases

edited September 2010 in General
I just picked up Brian McBride's "When the Detail Lost its Freedom". Standard Kranky fare, but my appetite for it never diminishes.

I've got about ten bucks left to spend. Though I should probably buy some credit to take advantage of some deals before they shutter up the place, I probably won't. Most of the stuff in my SFL is there because I couldn't summon the interest to purchase it. I can only imagine the same apathy would manifest when faced with the decision of listening to it.

  • My last purchases have been more binge like, as evidenced here, though that includes eight albums that I bought out of pre-cognition of the shutdown. ;-)
  • My last purchase is Sainkho's Naked Spirit, an album on Amiata. I'm partially tempted to get what I can while it's still cheap, but with this last binge I've realized that I've been shopping for 12 tracks every day since the beginning of Summer. (Granted, that includes some stuff that was free at the time, but not things that were free tracks of the day, samplers, or ordinarily free albums). I don't want to look at the site except to re-dl anything that isn't currently on my HD.

@Jonah, if you are having difficulty finding cheap stuff, consider ROIR, Palmetto, and Amiata.
  • I only had $2.44 left; so far I bought the Frost single by SALEM, and BXI with Boris and the Cult guy.

Still have $.47 plus one of my last minute recs on a Fela album managed to make $.01; any suggestions for $.48?

    I ended up with these:

Broken Family Band - Please and Thank You (not on emu)
Grant McLennan - Best Of Solo Recordings
Green Milk from the Planet Orange - City Calls Revolution
Johnny Dowd - Cemetery Shoes (not on emu)
Kawabata Makoto & The Mothers Of Invasion - Hot Rattlesnakes (cheap on amie, 12 for 3 on emu)
Legendary Pink Dots - The Whispering Wall
Modern English - Mesh & Lace (not on emu)
Praxis - Profanation (probably should have got Warszawa, which is 12 for 5 on emu)
Ramsay Midwood - Popular Delusions & the Madness of Cows (not on emu)
Royal City - Little Heart's Ease (if you don't have it, start with Alone At The Microphone)

It's been hell just trying to make these last purchases. I can't imagine buying more credit.
  • As noted on the other thread, my last purchases were:

    Belleruche - Turntable Soul Music
Nostalgia 77 - Songs For My Funeral
Steve Reich - Another Look at Counterpoint
Terry Riley - The Padova Concert
    Fela Kuti - Na Poi

The Belleruche and Nostalgia 77 are both great, haven't hear the Reich or Riley yet, and am slowly making my way through the Fela. LOVING it so far. How did I not have more Fela before?

    Craig
  • I've found some free albums worth grabbing:

Voice of Strandja by Kalinka Zgurova
Slantseto Treperi Da Zaide by Slantseto Treperi Da Zaide
Shareno Horo with Neshko Neshev by Neshko Neshev

    - All of them are Eastern European traditional stuff from a label called Gega New.
  • Try this while it is free:

Zheng Music, Chinese instrumental harp music.

Greg Reiter, "Flamenco Fusion", pretty cool stuff with a middle eastern feel

Fantuzzi, reggae, jam-band style, starts with a didgeridoo and just gets better

Both were free when I posted this, ignore the self-serving fact that I rec'ed them all, so did Frogkopf. Free world music is a good thing.

After cashing all my RECs I had a bunch of credit to burn -- these should keep me busy for a while. Still downloading the last few albums. I found many of these through the various Amie threads on this board, so thanks!

I used up my real $ and most of my rec earnings on:

The Weepies - Be My Thrill (I'd been resisting, but it grows on you)
Vampire Weekend - Contra (I'd missed the drop on this and wasn't thrilled at paying $8.82, but what the heck)
Los Straitjackets - Yuletide Beat (how I missed this one I can't fathom)

I also snagged a couple free tracks. I'll probably do some more freebie hunting before they pull the plug on the servers.

  • hey craig... another Fela Kuti compilation dropped at AmieStreet .
  • Ah frick. Now I need to decide if I should put more money into Amie.

    Craig
  • You know you want to...

The $7.50 I put in today was unexpected because, well, the new drops were unexpected.
  • With my whopping $1 credit, I spent over half, half I tell you, on
"When My Time Comes" from Dawes' North Hills

Wow. Now I need to find a track or two for 42 cents.
How bizarre, they're adding new music.

I'm partly tempted to add $5 to get that new Weepies!

I know Fela has been mentioned several times in this thread, but these two comps are a screaming deal.

    Zombie

    Na Poi

Both released this year on Knitting Factory, and selling for $69.99 each at the iTunes store. Zombie is currently a little over $7 (for 314 minutes of music) and Na Poi a little over $9 (for 388 minutes) in Amie money. If you use 50% off credits you're looking at $8 and change (in real money) for both.
  • Has anyone been able to buy anything today?
  • I haven't tried. I've been too busy downloading while I still can. My home internet (DSL) is very sketchy, so I have to load up when the signal's strong. It was basically out all day today until about an hour ago.

Not the last one, but I just bought this:
    Roy Montgomery - Temple IV

    WOW !
  • nothing. swindleee.
  • Yeah, huge swindlee! I cannot spend my last 42 cents! I was even trying it at 4am!

it is really spotty - i'm now down to about 3bux. keep hitting the "try again" button - eventually its been connecting.

    clink.
  • Unless I get desperate and add some more coin before midnight, Opposite People from Fela Kuti used up my final $1.16. I actually wanted 2 songs from him that wer $.59 each - 2 freakin' cent more than I had!
  • Yeah, I'm looking at two items for 44 cents. Some motivational speaker that reminded me of downloading all that Hemi-Sync at eMusic before Monroe pulled them.
Ah, but for that 2 cents' worth!
  • i lied. its down.
  • wholly heck.... my last purchase actually just went through:

Album: Gummy Bear Flight by Brooklyn Sushi
    - 'cause it was just added (well, an hour ago now) and 'free'.

Album: Retribution by Fuck U All
    - 'casue I saw that on the 'wandersucks' AmieStreet profile and it only set me back $0.75

    Album: Error by Crimson Razorback
    - 'cause what would be a more fitting song/artist to remember AmieStreet by

Album: 1 - McLeod/Nichols/Veatch by Pinebox Music Improv Series
    - 'cause I always wondered why references to this album would show up in the address bar when the AmieStreet website was running slow. I would always be taken to the 'new releases' that my saved-off link was supposed to go. But jotted this down and looked it up one time.

Album: The Treasury of Zheng Music by Lunlun Zou
    - 'cause after all of the above I needed to get something worthwile as part of my last stuff from AmieStreet.

I bid you 'good day' AmieStreet!
  • Blew through my last $9 and change today. Love and Rockets (Sorted! The Best of) and Robyn Hitchcock (Sex, Food, Death and Tarantulas EP and a couple of spare tracks off the Spooked album to kill my last buck). Still have fifteen cents in the account, but I think I'm gonna leave it. Unfortunately, I also left 240 RECs on the table, but oh well. After downloading more than 7,000 tracks from that site in just over two years, I think I got my money's worth.

Thanks for everything, Amie Street. It's been great.
  • Since learning of Amie Street's imminent demise, I picked up a bunch of Psy Trance albums to use for exercising:

Tshitraka Project Vol. 3 by Tshitraka Project
    Wonderland by Tulk
    Polaris by Polaris
    In Between by Polaris
    Highway 420 by Highway 420
    One by Imix
    Aires Rising by Helios
    Cosmology by Cosmosis

    I also bought these:

    Espectros by Norka
Symphonie NR.4 Es-dur by The Tchaikovsky Large Symphony Orchestra

I also picked up a few free albums:

    String Planet by String Planet
Through the Gates by Larry Tuttle (Chapman stick player for String Player)
    Touched by Josiah Barlow

    total Street Cred: 11172

My last Amie purchases was basically from Beta-lactam Ring Records:

Seven That Spells (spinning now - sounds great)
La STPO (pleases my inner artbear ;-)
Green Milk From The Planet Orange (wild !)
    Nurse With Wound
    Christus & the Cosmonaughts ( ! )
    George & Caplin
    Earthmonkey
    Negative Entropy

    - Before that:
Terry Riley, Frank Bretschneider, Laurent Pernice & Jaques Baberi (fantastic !), Ekkehart Ehlers, Brent Gutzeit, AUN, Ezekiel Honig, Calla (great band, thanks froggie), Morgan Packard, Klimek and quite a lot from the NWCRI catalogue.

I even dared to add 15 in the last minutes and managed to spend it and download everything and left 8 cents behind.

    Phiew !

BTW: Seven That Spells is instrumental jammy psychedellic rock, and they are really letting it out !

After my last message, I took some time to get some free New Age albums. Since Amie Street was spotty about letting me purchase and download stuff, I decided to not spend any more money and just go for the free stuff. Now that Amie Street is forwarding to Amazon, these are my last purchases from Amie Street:

Martin Lund - Sketches of the Heart Vol 1
Razi Ben-Ezzer - Stories of Musica
Alternate Reality - One Small Step
    Phyllis Cole-Dai - Friends
Edward Croce - Above the Sky
    Rob Medley - Spectrum
