  • was that their re-up teaser? i figured they'd come back with bigger bonus packs if you quit.

    we shall see.

listening to dry ice on 8tracks - i may just hang out at mix land once i come undone at emu.
  • Has everyone else who has quit been given a similar offer? I was going to wait for my 25 thank you downloads to kick in in August, use 'em up, and then quit with the hopes of getting a "please, please stay" offer.

    Yeah, I wanna milk it.
  • that's my thinking - another way of re-upping might be to grab a 50set thru a new subscription np's AND have someone refer you so they get a 50bucket too...which is what i'll probably do. cancel - wait til november to get my annual xmas mix going and then hang around for a few months. altho i'll say this: i just don't think the subscription model is going to be there in a year.
  • I think you're right about the subscription model. I wonder why no (fully above board) service doesn't adopt the shady Russian site's (what was that called, anyway?) model: pay per size of file, and offer a variety of types and sizes of file from 128 kbps to lossless.
  • They have periodically sent me re-up emails to my different accounts over the years.
The most I was offered was 75 free downloads a couple times and sign back up at the lowest subscription level.
  • I got that one too, right before "the announcement." Wasn't so bad, essentially I got a $30 booster card for $12.
  • That would be cool, a 50-pack to sign up again. Somehow I don't think they'll be sending one my way, though ; )

@captwhiffle, It was allofmp3.com, at least I think that was the main one. I don't understand why there isn't something like that around, either.
  • BJB! That Charlie Robison album is killer, ain't it? A perfect soundtrack for on my way to and from trouting down dusty back roads...
  • rastamon,

I love that album, It IS good.
I also have downloaded Guy Forsyth's "Calico Girl" really good too.
And Kieran Kane's "Somewhere Beyond The Roses", it is really good also.

    Check those out.
  • OK, so I was about to hit the cancel button with the expectation that I would succumb to the "please stay" offer. Did you lose your ability to redownload already downloaded tracks, Billyjoebob? That's what the screen says will happen if I continue to cancel my membership.
  • @capn

The account I'm on now does not do that, I can still download previously dl'd tracks.
This account had been dead for about 6 months, so before all the changes took place. But the invite back was after changes took place.
I'm thinking this is something new?
  • So I put my account on hold back at the beginning of July the day before my new plan would've gone into effect. I wanted to see how things shook out before hitting a cancel button. I was going to wait until September to make a decision, but now hearing about these 50dl & 75dl rejoin offers, I'm tempted to do it now. I would definitely rejoin with a 75dl offer. But I have a few questions first. Some involve educated guesswork, some on your experience.
    1. When I take my account off hold, if I decide to reactivate it (instead of quitting) just to get my free 15dl bonus pack and then quit, I'll only get billed for August, right? Putting your account on hold doesn't have any retroactive effect (for me, July). It makes sense that it wouldn't, that it's basically whatever months you missed while on hold you're not responsible for, but the info on the emusic site for account holds was vague enough that I figured it couldn't hurt to ask (well, hurt me, at least; you, on the other hand, might be experiencing some pain from my posts).
    2. If I take the course in Question #1 above, would you guess that by grabbing the 15dl and running might in any way hurt my chances of getting a 50 or 75dl offer to return? In other words, I'm happy to give 15 to get 50. But if I can get 'em both, even better.
    3. Backing up music. I've never done this before. How do you guys typically do this? I've got one of those little thumb drives that I store just my written material on. Can I get one of those for just my iTunes library and just copy and paste the music library files onto it? Or does it not work like that? This is the kind of elementary tech knowledge that I'm both surprised and embarrassed not to possess.
Any help you can give, whether it's techie advice or guesswork, will be very appreciated.
    Cheers.
  • hmm - i left + got a confirmation letter that i cancelled. no perk.

i think they have to work a bunch of things out...even then, the terms on my end have changed...i don't think i'm interested.
  • jonahpwll - you ask about backing up your iTunes library.

You can buy an external HD for less that $100. Thumb drives are usually 2 GB, with the largest at 8 GB. That might not be enough for your iTunes library. To find out how large your iTunes library is, right-click on the folder that contains your iTune library, and select 'Properties.'

To back up your music, copy the iTunes folder to your external drive. On my PC the name of the folder that contains my iTunes library is the default name - 'iTunes.'

    Any more questions, please ask.

My iTunes library is currently at 3.07 GB. But I have much, much more that has been archived to CDs because my older PCs didn't have the space, and hard drives weren't as large then. I recently bought a 500 GB external drive for music and photos, but haven't had time to set it up yet. It's on my list of projects for the next few days. I would like my collection all in one place. I need to buy a second one so I can have one for archiving and one for current play. It would be nice to cut back on the CD or DVD archiving. They take up so much room.

On my PC, the path is: My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music

The My Music folder has downloads from Amazon, Amie Street, Chandos, classical.com, eFolk Music, and miscellaneous stuff I have added.
  • I'm still hooked. My Saved-For-Later list has swelled up to 140 albums, more than it's ever had before. And between now and the end of the year I see dozens of discs on the horizon that will appear on eMusic that I'm anxious to get.
