  • I'm DLing now also. After yesterday's outage it kind of makes me want to just use all the credits right away and run.
  • Outages seem not infrequent over there. Very much a "Mom and Pop," operation, and possibly just "Pop"! I've had a few problems, they always get straightened out eventually.
  • Hooray! I resigned for $14.99 and received 0 credits. Now all I have to do is wait for CS to respond.

    (tick ... tick .. tick ...)
  • BT, see above. I think there is literally one guy (Dey) running the show. My card was charged yesterday, credits popped up this morning.

With which I bought the brand-new John Moulder album (also at eMu)

  • "Server not responding" last night and this morning...could this be the end? Hope not, have half a month's credits left.
  • Happened before for a day or two - it came back eventually.
  • That Moulder album is outstanding. Free track up at AAJ, review scheduled.
  • It's back by the way.

  • Good...always seems like they could just disappear someday.

Jonah, I really like the Moulder album too...Need to see what else I should be looking at from Origin. Waiting for the Jeff Parker to show up on Delmark.
  • I've been doing an Origin/OA2 retrospective on BitW. Also, they are a regular participant on the AAJ dotd.

My favorite Origin/OA2 albums from the past year(ish):

    1. Storms/Nocturnes - "VIA"
    2. Tunnel Six - "Lake Superior"
    3. Piet Verbist - "Zygomatik"
    4. AJ Kluth's Aldric - "Anvils & Broken Bells"
    5. Tito Carillo - "Opening Statement"
    6. John Moulder - "Eleventh Hour"
    7. Anthony Branker - "Dialogic"
    8. AsGuests - "Universal Mind"
    9. Cuong Vu - "Leaps of Faith"
    10. Chad McCullough-Bram Weijters - "Imaginary Sketches"

And there's even more, including albums by John Stowell, AfroBop Alliance, Upper Left Trio, and probably others I'm forgetting.
  • jonahpwll -- Some fabulous recs on that list - salivating for my downloads to refresh this week. What a great label I've sadly never heard of.

BTW, I've also liked Heartless Bastards, and have been always disappointed in their albums, potential not realized. Her latest is sublime. Great synergy with her new bandmates that supports and helps soar her voice. Songs have their own experience, lyrics help out, but it's the great pathos that finally ascends. Solid all the way through.

I hate writing about music. Anyway, it's great. It's on Mtraks.
  • I see that MTraks has all the recent Earth albums at significant savings over emusic. Now browsing to see if there's enough else to tempt me back for a month. I see they have fieldhead too.
  • You know I've been meaning to post this and get some suggestions as well. I'm timing out from Mtraks after running amuck to drain my 75 dls. Got there, but needed more time going through back catalogs than I really have right now.

Still I roam Mtraks via labels, never bands. Find a good label producing great music, someone with a similar ear as myself, and I just search through their entire listings. Here's my list so far:

    Fat Cat Records
    Clean Feed
    Cuneiform Records
    Kranky
    Origin Records
    Ghostly International

Ah, that's where my memory comes up short, and the whole ain't-got-no-time comes up again. Would love more label suggestions.
  • Hibernate Recordings is on there and has some great titles. I recommend the Wil Bolton album.
  • Sort, if you like Cuneiform and Origin, you'll want to look at Pi Recordings as well. I have about half the albums on that front page.
  • Slumberland isn't too far afield from things like Ghostly, and Wierd is a personal fav with some relevance to Ghostly and Kranky.

  • Hi emusers! Just dropping by to say I hope all your CS issues have been resolved. mtraks is not going away. Glad you continue to find new and interesting stuff. Look forward to more improvements this year.
  • stsmith - any idea when the rest of the world might get Mtraks?
  • Since Sunday,
    mTraks is undergoing maintenance.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will be back shortly to serve you better.
Hope so, my credits expire this week...
  • They appear to have had a major malfunction. I used my credits but didn't get to download right away. Once I tried all hell broke loose.

    Craig
  • They're back, but search not working. Also a dearth of new releases, or I should say, new albums I'm interested in that aren't there. Hoping for the best....
  • I emailed them -
We are in the process of recovering from a partial system failure.

They hope to be fully functional "soon" - search does not work and I can't see my wishlist.

With no search how can I see which of Dave's picks are available on mtraks (many do show up and have been downloaded).
  • Dave's picks

You mean he has changed his name too, besides ruling the World!
  • I hope they straighten it out before the thread gets revised, "Well, that may be the end of Mtraks for me" Noticed a JazzCat label that has a ton of classic jazz artists with albums I've never heard of.
  • Could they finally be fading away? My renew date has come and gone w/ no renew. (A rare occasion when you authorize someone on the Internet to charge your credit card and they don't do it!)

Anyone had any communication with them? Even if they get up and running, the dearth of new releases makes me wonder if it's worth staying on.
  • Could they finally be fading away? My renew date has come and gone w/ no renew.
I noticed that many more contemporary folk albums have disappeared.
  • Did you guys not get the email?
    To our Subscribers;

mTraks two weeks ago experienced a partial system failure that resulted in one of our RAID drives becoming inaccessible without a remount. What that means is we need another new storage server to plug those drives into before it will work again. This does not affect any credit or personal info as this is all stored securely on Authorize.net servers behind an encrypted wall. Some of you may experience OOPS! messages when trying to access your shopping cart and other areas of the site. This is due to music that is no longer accessible as before on the drive so the system goes OOPS! Purchases, saving to your cart, downloads, your library and most functionality is restored already. We simply need to mount those drives which contain 60% of the music and this will get us back full throttle. While we work on getting this done, none of you will be charged your monthly subscription fee. We will offer a credit to those that have lost or been unable to redeem their pre-paid credits. We will also be granting most of you free time. Will let you know on that. Long time subscribers will be given priority. We are figuring 30 days to get all of this done. We will keep you updated.

Many of you have contacted us about your concerns already and have told us how much the mTraks service means to you. Thank you.

Please feel free to contact support@mtraks.com if you have any concerns.

Thank you very much for your business.

  • Thanks Craig...Indeed, I did not get that e-mail. Sounds like they are going to be down for at least a couple more weeks.
  • Yeah, I got it on May 31. I wish I'd known that not everyone got it, I'd have posted it sooner.

I had some communication with Dey before the e-mail came out, and it seems pretty clear they aren't going anywhere.

  • Snarky Sysadmin me says: "WTF kind of operation do you have there where your damn core business systems are not redundant?"
Sensitive Sysadmin me says: "I am so sorry to hear of your loss, this must be a very difficult time for you."
