Greg Davis - "Arbor"

One of the premier experimenters of improvisational digital manipulation. I saw him live at the Empty Bottle in Chicago years ago, and it was just him on stage with his guitars (he studied jazz and classical guitar at Depaul; his bio says he picked up his master in Boston) and his laptop. A wonderful ambient folkish mix of live music funneled through the laptop while concurrently being played over with more live music.
On "Arbor", mostly a subtle album, but lacking the drone tendencies of much of his later work. Some exquisitely beautiful moments, including a version of Nick Drake's "Introduction" on the album Bryter Layter (called "Nicolas" on Arbor).
I couldn't find any full tracks, but here's some song samples on the emusic page.

  • I enjoy Arbor and most of his other works. I really prefer Midpoint of his albums with Keith F Whitman. I have ordered a few of his recording from his website. I got a cassette tape that was particularly different.
