hell yeah. i'm going to post a big 'ole list of albums and songs, some of it in order, some of it not.
-
yeah, i did that. i also downloaded live sessions from deerhoof and a-place-to-bury-strangers.
my problem with the site -- and a lot of download sites -- is that they have an odd interaction with my external drive or my itunes or someth… -
thom this daytrotter session is unspeakably great. i love the dark, menacing, hawaiian, rockabily vibe of this band.
-
oh wow! thanks thom. i had no idea anyone really listened to this band. i thought they were truly, totally under-the-radar (e.g., releasing almost everything on little cassette-only labels).

hisato higuchi -- henzai.

lonely, moaning blues from a japanese perspective… -

my wife hates the kanye record. too profane. but, because it's cute tho profane, she loves the cee-lo song f--k you.

neither one of us know what he means by "actually i'm the abominable snowman," but whatevs.

yeah i love that line! my wife thinks it's funny (too over-the-top).

does it seem to you that "black friday" is being given an even higher profile this year than usual? i see the phrase everywhere.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
enjoy it now before the bogus backlash begins. man that wordless chorus after the "can we get much higher" line in the opening song is breathtaking. and, of course, runaway; my favorite song of th…me and the devil gives me shivers every time i hear it, beginning with the mechanized, abrasive ticking that knifes in at the beginning of the song.i love the gil scott-heron album, and i haven't been much of a fan of his in the past. that and the grinderman disc hover close to the top of my year-end list, too (probably nos. 3 -- 2, in that order). it's kind of fascinating, since both …craig, i have five of the discs on your list -- titus andronicus; kanye; janelle monae; sleigh bells; beach house -- and i like-to-love all of them. to me, kanye stands heads-and-shoulders above anything else released this year: it's ambitious and …Hosting Thanksgiving ATM, but I'll circle back later on this topic.I got 31 from the Rough Trade list.oh man. i think it lives up to every bit of the hype. and runaway remains a stunner every single time i hear it.
i don't think he's as bad a rapper as people say, but he's clearly inferior to some of the guests on the disc, e.g.…don't. there are others who don't like it. they don't like his lyrics, the way he leans into certain phrases, the thin and poor quality of his voice, and so forth. i think this disc is brilliant, but ymmv.i dig your list, and i dig a lot of those bands.
gonna have to start working on mine.(Quote)
in my book, too. my singles list will be much more interesting and diverse than my albums list (which will be plenty diverse itself, i think). aside from the towering achievement that is kanye west's new disc, there's a tonany list out prior to the release of kanye's disc is a list out too soon.
the gil-scott heron is a damn fine album, i'll say that. me and the devil is jawdropping, and kind of dubstep-y (as is much of the disc).^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ great, great album.(Quote)
i feel overwhelmed as to this label and a handful of others (e.g., verve). i'm going to dive-into the thread here about ECM, hoping to pinpoint some stuff to start with.
