I never really "got" him either, though honestly I didn't try that hard. That sort of indie folk stuff doesn't do it for me, except as a very occasional change of pace. I do like some Nick Drake, but mostly in passing, if I hear it somewhere. It'…

Craig, thanks for the link to that review of the Replacements reunion. That was seriously awesome. I've never listened to Titus Andronicus, but I think I have to now.

George Duke. Very sad. I'm not really a jazz guy but loved his work with Zappa and Stanley Cla…

It's completely legit. I've been a "VIP" member there for two or three years, which was a great deal because it cost $50 per year but you immediately got a $50 merchandise credit to use on anything at the site, plus discounts, free shipping, etc. …

Saw Wire at the Black Cat in DC last night. Opener was a band called Bear in Heaven, which apparently has been around for a while but was new to me. Three guys clearly influenced by Wire, including a lead vocalist who also played keyboards and ass…

Just saw the Fab Faux at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. If you don't know the Fab Faux, check out their website here.

Very sad to hear about Scott Miller. In addition to being a great musician, his book Music: What Happened is full of brilliant writing and interesting, insightful criticism. Fifty-three is way too young.

@BT - nice! I lived in Durham for a few years back in the 80s and have fond memories of the old ballpark. Though the new one is a lot nicer.

Down to 2 credits today, the Facebook credit is gone.

Very sad about Roger Ebert. His writing introduced me to many of my favorite movies, and I have been a regular reader of his blog over the past couple of years. The matter-of-fact way he handled his illness, and his refusal to let it silence him e…

I thought that might be a possibility. Oh well, it seems like a good idea anyway. Better than the current model.

New Johnny Marr solo release is on there too.

Tracks: 52,337
Size: 916.38 GB
Days: 142.1
Of the total number of tracks, 29,853 are Apple Lossless (ALAC) and the rest are MP3/AAC. Interestingly, the lossless tracks account for 57% of my library but take up 81% (742.96 GB… -

My wife loves that show. She's been trying to get me to watch, and I've seen bits of it. Seems very well done. -
Maintenance in progress...

I've been listening to this Pink Floyd tribute the past few days, and it's really good. Participants include Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Steve Howe, Tony Levin, Skunk Baxter, and Keith Emerson. No slouches here.

I'm reluctant to jump in myself because I spent an enormous amount of time re-ripping my entire CD library to lossless files -- finished about a year ago. The effort needed to revise genre tags for all those tracks is more than I care to think abou…

I downloaded some stuff this morning and it worked fine. Got the first Siouxsie and the Banshees singles collection (Once Uon A Time) and two Motorhead albums (thanks to whoever it was that mentioned Motorhead earlier in this thread). Like others,…

I think there are two singles collections. I have no objection to going that route if it provides the most bang for the credits.
-
Aah, thanks Craig and Rudie. Yes, I'm a dumbass.
Any suggestions for where to start with Siouxsie? -
Am I missing something on Siouxsie & The Banshees? I did a search on Guvera recently, because I have literally nothing of theirs on CD or download, and I only found one track on Guvera.

Me too. I use the Grouping field to identify where I get things, so I can easily create a playlist for Guvera, Bandcamp, eMusic, Amie Street, etc. I've occasionally been tempted to be more specific in the genre field, but then I … -
Honestly, between Guvera (free), Bandcamp (direct payment to artists and lossless DLs available), and an occasional purchase from one of the usual suspects (Amazon, 7Digital, etc.), I don't miss eMusic at all. I let my subscription lapse probably 1…

Just noticed they have a lot of primo Richard Thompson. The aptly named "More Guitar" can be found under the Richard Thompson Band, and it's a blistering live set. Also worth checking out: Rumor and Sigh, Mock Tudor, Amnesia, 1000 Years of Popular…

For those who missed out previously, looks like all the XTC tracks are back on Guvera. This includes the Coat of Many Cupboards (rarities) and Fossil Fuel (singles) collections, both of which are excellent.

OK, I didn't realize that some tracks are only available for streaming but not to download. The new Foo Fighters album appears to be in that category. Thanks for the explanation.
Looks like the 3-credit facebook link has disappeared. … -
Ddanmar, I've also found several tracks on the Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" that cut off about halfway through when streaming. I haven't tried to download any of them for that reason.

I did find a bunch of prime Buzzcocks, including the "Time's Up" quasi-bootleg and deluxe editions of their first three albums. I have the original releases but each new one has a bonus disc of demos and live tracks. Got the extras for Another Mus…
