OK, I basically did a fresh reinstall of it. That seems to have helped. Probably cleaned out a few years of cruft anyway.
note to admins: the spam checking has changed, with some old stuff going away, but there are some new things we can … -
OK, there are some issues with the admin dashboard now. I'm going to try some things that will cause weirdness on the site to try to track it down. Expect features to turn on and off a bit.
-
Well that hopefully worked. As always, let me know if you spot weirdness.

and another upgrade about to happen, hold on to your digital hats...

(Quote)Nope, it's most likely to be because of individual incompetence on my part

You're welcome

Nice, thanks for confirming!

OK, my best guess is that either the old version had some heuristics to detect the really old comment style and switched the format specially and that's now gone, or things just got more strict. Anyway, it may be fixed, at least in part now. All the…

I had a look into the soundcloud thing and I'm 90% sure it's a problem with soundcloud itself. As far as I can tell, the forum is doing everything that soundcloud tells it to do, and it's broken on their own demo site. If I follow their URL-rewritin…

(Quote) Curious. I see the same behaviour here: https://blog.soundcloud.com/2009/07/28/soundcloud-player-in-forum…

(Quote) I turned on the gravatar plugin, so if you don't have a picture set already in the forum or on gravatar, it'll use a default that seems to come from vanilla.

And done, surprisingly pain-free really.
-
Hoping to do a forum software update, and maybe a server OS upgrade, time permitting. Expect wobbliness today.
-
Yeah, I'm dropping it today I think. In part because dealing with zip files is a bit annoying, but mostly because I often forget to use it entirely, so I'm definitely not getting my money's worth.
-
I also notice many albums don't have genres at all. And others are in kinda weird places, or a band has multiple albums split across an unexpected set of them.

(Quote) Slightly belated, but yay!

(Quote) wow, that's a bit awful.

I just started looking at the new site. It certainly changed. But, isn't it now a pain when you have credit to get half an album and want to finish it off next time? Previously I'd just download the first half and add the album to SFL to finish off …

(Quote) That seems like a pretty awkward approach. A zip file won't match the file layout I prefer, unless I'm really lucky. Also, emusicj will (I think - it's been years) rewrite the MP3 tags so that they match the real metadata, fixing what…

(Quote) Did it keep working? If I have to make an update for it, I probably will have time this weekend.

In theory it should be OK. It not being OK is hopefully something that shouldn't be encountered any more. It'd probably also be an issue with Motörhead type names, too.
-
OK, I know what it was. Stupid PHP/stupidly written PHP (not sure which) didn't understand that unicode is a thing and apparently threw up its hands at Æ, refusing to go further in the content, probably during the migration process.
Thank…
