  • Prince - Lotus Flow3r

Dl'd from Amazon.fr for 5€ (double album + a freebie by someone else).

I hadn't seen anything about this. It seems no-one bothers to review Prince any more.

    It's very good.
  • just downloaded the new Baby Woodrose from emusic.
i'm a sucker for that Elevators/Seeds garage/folk/psych sound with the unstable twist.
  • martyna - thanks for the bassbeatsandbleeps link, there's some interesting stuff on there. I should have thanked you before, sorry, but I've been really busy. I also saw your post about Waldeck, I've liked that Ballroom Stories album for some time. If you haven't heard the Make My Day release, that's in a similar vein, I especially like the Parov Stelar remix and Addicted. The other releases on emusic tend to be a bit dubbier rather than this funkier side of them.

If you don't know Dublex Inc, they sound similar, I especially like the Nifty Night, Eight Ears and Tango Forte remix releases.
  • very happy with the rough guide to vietnam.

as these things go, you have to pray that they haven't gone overboard with "see how far along our music has come!" mentality...because it only leads to one super pathetic central point > namely boy band bullshit. srsly. there is ONE on here, but skipping it and getting to the rest is hevvily-weighted great.
  • dubdance - glad you're enjoying those mixes.
And thanks for the Dublex nudge - it's been loitering in my SFL for ages , I'll make an effort to check it out properly now.

whilst I'm here, I have to share this discovery Novalima - sort of a dubby-dancy-afro-beats concoction - delicious.
  • rough guide to ravi shankar. awesome.
  • I'm listening to these True North tracks that Kez posted about, elsewhere.
  • martyna - I hadn't seen the Novalima album before, thanks, I've got various Zeb, Boozoo Bajou, De Lata tracks, so this looks interesting, though I can't get the other place to let me hear the samples, again! Will have to check them out on Spotify or similar I guess, but I reckon most of that album will get downloaded here when I get my refresh on the 22nd, though that'll probably be the next day as we all know it takes longer for us to get the new credits on this side of the world!

Ambrose Field & John Potter - Being Dufay

I grabbed this one because of Nereffid's review at his blog:
"These are electronic soundscapes based around some vocal music by 15th-century composer Guillaume Dufay. This had the potential to be nothing but gimmicky crossover, but it works well, for two main reasons: Field's electronica is generally understated and always anchored to the Dufay phrases, and John Potter is in wonderful voice. That said, it's the sort of album you need to be in the right frame of mind to listen to. That said, the opening track is one of the most gorgeous things ever"
    Thanks Nereffid !</span></font><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div><div><img src="http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad343/elrinconcito/gifs/Musica/Guitarras-Guitarristas-Bajos/GIF017.gif"><br></div&gt;
  • just downloaded some Mudville
    and I'm stunned.
It's a very long time since I loved an album so much at first hearing
(think Portishead with dashes of PJ Harvey)

    Listening lately to:

The Juan MacLean / The Future Will Come: On the DFA label, eMusic describes them as LCD Soundsystem's electronic little brother, and that's pretty accurate. Good stuff.

Andrew Weatherall / A Pox on the Pioneers: My Two Lone Swordsmen rec went over so well on the emu boards, I have to recommend this solo album by the singer. And really, brittleblood, I wonder if he is the only member of Two Lone Swordsmen. Because that would make him One Accompanied Swordsman. Wait, that doesn't make any sense at all. Screw it, just listen to the remix of "Sex Beat" by 2LS. CACKLE!!! Anyway, this is a surprisingly good dubby album. Although I'm not a big fan of Weatherall singing. I can take it. The music is great.

YACHT / See Mystery Lights: Very fun indie electro stuff in the vein of MGMT or Head Like A Kite. I think the guy used to be in The Blow. Also on DFA. My only criticism is there are some very strong tracks on the album, and some ho-hum afterthought remix tracks, like it's really an EP. Wait, am I complaining? No. Hey, thanks for the EP with some extra stuff.
  • I'm listening to the brand new Tegan and Sara, Sainthood!!!

Life is always better when T&S have a new album. I even bought it on CD (!!!), if you can believe that. I never buy CDs anymore. It's kind of fun.
  • MOSZKOWSKI: Piano Concerto in E Major / From Foreign Lands

Thank you, RonanM, for recommending this concerto some time ago. It took me a long time to get to it on my SFL. As you said, it is beautiful.
  • @ martyna - I sampled the Mudville, you're right about the way a first hearing of it(even with 30 sec samples in my case) hits the ears and brain, Very similar to how some of Portishead and PJ Harvey have in the past too. As the AMG guy says the "dark electronic brood of acid jazz, trip-hop (or whatever they're calling it this third time around) comes back into favor" with those keyboard sounds and her vocals, very Beth Gibbons on some of it, are cool sounds. Soulfull too.

Poor old e***c, still hopeless at categorisation - alternative/punk, my ****!
  • Peer Gynt Suite. Haven't listened to this in the morning for ever so long.
  • Peer Gynt Suite.

Have you seen the movie "M?" I can't hear that without thinking of Peter Lorre.
  • No, I haven't seen M! I just looked it up....wow, that would kinda spoil it, huh? Sounds like a gruesome movie. I will see if Tivo can find it.
Right now, it's The Who Sell Out.
