  • how do you all keep track of what you downloaded in a given month?

my emusic downloads aren't sortable by "most recently downloaded."
  • I sort mine within itunes by editing recently added. That reminds me that I need to do that for December
  • I have a master playlist for each download service that is ordered by Date Added.
  • @Daniel, I use a combination of Delicious (and more recently Pinboard) to bookmark and tag the purchases as well as smart lists in iTunes to track where and when. I started doing this as a way to organize how I remember music since I usually associate albums with periods in my life so that Delicious/Pinboard and iTunes sort of creates a scrapbook for me.

  • @Daniel - I actually put it in the comments for the mp3s. I haven't gone back to older stuff (I actually have the dates for the majority of my CD purchases in a database), but now when I buy something it gets tagged like: Amazon.com 2011-01-04. Since I've changed my computer and media player multiple times this helps me keep track despite my current library telling me everything was added in 2010. It also helps me separate paid vs freebie more easily (I don't enter dates for freebies).
  • Emusic:

Ellis Island Sound - "The Good Seed"
Keiron Phelan - "O, Little Stars"
Carlos Bica + Materia - "Prima"

+ some misc. free tracks from AAJ, but nothing worth noting.

Beach Fossils - s/t: Not bad. A little too into the current surf rock hype, but enjoyable.
Hauschka - Ferndorf: Fantastic. A needed addition to my collection.
The Mountain Goats - Beautiful Rat Sunset: I just love John Darnielle. Can't wait for the new album in March.
Pigeon John - Dragon Slayer: Fun hip hop. Certainly not original though. It'll get an occasional listen, but that's all.
Pylon - Chomp More: As good as ever.
Serge Gainsbourg - The Early Hits of Serge Gainsbourg: I seriously need more Serge Gainsbourg. Too good.
Set Fire to Flames - Signs Reign Rebuilder: I've been loving post-rock recently and this is a needed addition to that genre for me. Brilliant work.
Wild Nothing - Gemini: Good, not great. I don't think it should have made year end lists, but can see where it would at least get consideration.
Zomby - Liquid Dancehall/Strange Fruit: Trying to expand my UK dance/dubstep/etc. knowledge.

    7digital
Die Antwoord - $O$: Still not sure. It's original, I'll give it that, but I just can't decide if it's good or not.
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full: A stone classic.
Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh: Very good. I've never been a huge fan of hers, but I like this.
James Brown - Hell: Nothing to say about JB.
Lee "Scratch" Perry - Jamaican E.T.: Starting to explore some of the artists/albums recommended to me in my dub/roots reggae thread. I like what I hear so far.
Maximum Balloon - s/t: Great stuff from David Sitek.

    Christmas Gifts
Carolina Chocolate Drops - Genuine Negro Jig: So much fun.
David Bowie - Low: I hadn't actually heard this one before I asked for it, but it makes so many lists of great albums. I can see why. Sheer genius.

I'll try and add my Bandcamp stuff later, but there's so much of it.

i like the idea of using itunes lists -- either smart playlists or tagging in the comment section of an album -- as a means of keeping track.

i download so much at times that my purchases pass from the "newly downloaded" folder, where it will appear on my ipod, to the 2K+ of albums in my overall itunes folder, where it will no-longer appear on my ipod unless i instruct itunes to put it there.
  • The only way iTunes would fail to easily serve as a source for purchase dates is if you don't add it to your library when you purchase it. Is that your issue, Daniel? Why wouldn't you add it to your lib when you buy it?

One trick of not wanting particular music in your playlists is to uncheck the selections (and have your playlists only include checked selections). I say that in case you withhold adding stuff to your library because you're not "ready" for it yet. I've done that with the Javasounds library (no way can I handle 12 albums of Indonesian music showing up in my playlists all at once).

My wife's response to that happening with my playlists was a long sigh followed by a "Really?" and me squirming with oblivious excitement responding, "Isn't it awesome!"
  • Been a long time since my d/l list was this small.
