"Are you breaking up with us?"
Got an e-mail from eMu the other day with the subject line "Are you breaking up with us? Come back and get your first month for 99 cents".
Let's see:
1) I canceled in October, eMu offered me a free month.
2) I took the free month and canceled in November.
3) In January I was offered a free month of $12 to come back. I took the freebies and immediately canceled.
4) In February I was offered a free month of $12to come back. I took the freebies and immediately canceled.
Yeah, I think I already broke up with you, but you keep being my booty call, eMu! I just hope you don't become a fatal attraction.
That said, this time I only got $5.99 for my $0.99. After looking around, why would anyone like me be a member at that price point? The "are you breaking up" e-mail tried to entice me by saying I could "grab instant classics from Adele, Lykke Li, and The Rural Albert Advantage." One problem: each of those albums is more than $5.99. So I looked at several of the classic albums I've been meaning to grab...more than $5.99. So I looked at the Brother Ali album I've been wanting...more than $5.99.
In the end I discovered that the new Cut Copy that has been on my list is $5.99 so I snagged that and am very happy, but I learned that being a member at $5.99 would be very depressing for me.
All that said, I'm looking forward to the next booty call, eMu!

Why am I not getting that progression? I was given #1, and I may have been given #2, but maybe not. Currently I was given #3, but I had to pay $6 to get it. Maybe I'm not as mean to emu as you are, so emu doesn't think it has to work as hard to get me back.
Well, quite honestly, if emu keeps coming back at me with pay $6 bucks for $12 total deals, I'll keep going month to month until that place becomes such a drag that even that deal isn't worth it anymore.
Doofy - I'm enjoying trying to decide who eMu's girlfriends are. I picture eMu trying to tag along with the cool girls (Amazon and iTunes), but being bossed around and treated like crap by them.

I want to say I receive some kind of offer every six weeks. Which is often enough to get what I want from eMusic.
