DePedro is aka Jairo Zavala, lead guitarist for Calexico when they are on tour. I was very impressed with DePedro's debut self-titled album (which included Calexico members in the band), and yes Calexico appears on this 2nd album, too. I've only listened to it a couple of times so far. My initial description would be a "superb sonic experience." I'm liking this one a LOT, and only expect it to grow on me the more I listen to it.
There are a few more albums I'm currently listening to, but I'll wait and post about them when I see if this posts okay. I apologize ahead of time if none of the links work (especially the picture - if it doesn't show up, I'd appreciate somebody letting me know how you do that).
I just deleted the picture from my message since I couldn't get it to work. It was the album cover from the Amazon page. Guess it doesn't matter anyway, since anyone interested in the album can follow the Amazon link (which fortunately does work). But it does make me hesitate a little to post more messages since apparently I'm the only one who can't seem to figure it out. Looks like every single post on this thread has a picture but mine!
@kez - do keep posting. Pictures are common but not compulsory. And if you want to post the string you were entering one of us can see if there's something needs changing. I have also occasionally run into inexplicable obstinacy with specific image links.
Kez, I have posted on other threads that have pictures. I never post them. Please don't let that stop you from posting. Links work just fine when you have a track or an album you want to share.
I usually don't click on the pics to see what the album might be, so if the name doesn't show on the pic or in the mouseover link, I am just out of luck. Still on dialup, so the extra step takes more time than I want to spend. Actually, I don't even take the time for all the pics to load. Takes forever, so I sometimes just skip those posts.
mommio, thanks for your comments. I really like the pictures, but I see your point about the advantage of links over pics for those who have slow connections. I experience that problem, too, quite often!
Build are a new-music ensemble who play an antic, bubbling mixture of chamber jazz and post-rock violins pluck in spirited little patterns above muted, prismatic piano chords in "Behavior Patterns"; "Dissolve" rumbles along to a driving drum-kit pulse; "Ride" ambles dreamily alongside a melancholic side street that Nick Drake might have visited. It's all played and executed with a light-footed, airy style, sure to sink deftly into the independent film playing in your mind.
- Interesting . . .
ETA:
Build, a five-piece band led by composer/violinist Matt McBane, "has been attracting serious attention with its genre-traversing mix of chamber-music decorum, rootsy twang and pop-fueled drive" (Time Out New York). Its eponymous debut album released in 2008 to wide acclaim. Its second album, Place, will be released March 29, 2011
The members of Build (Andrea Lee, cello, Ben Campbell, bass, Matt McBane, violin/compositions, Mike Cassedy, piano/rhodes, Adam Gold, drums) have individually trained at some of the countrys most prestigious music schools (USC Thornton School of Music, Yale School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and New England Conservatory) in both Classical and Jazz performance, have extensive backgrounds in indie-rock and other musical genres, and have performed around world.

Cool, cloudy, but dry here - we've got 9 more days to go before our vacation. Looking forward to some sun...
I'm certainly not a classical muisc fan, but that Naxos deal on Amazon looks worth getting. Unusually we have it too on Amazon at £7.99, which is basically the same price as the States. That suggests to me that it is a label promotion
3 cd's for $10 at the local brick and mortar this Saturday. I got this plus these:
(the release of a 40th anniversary edition means there are plenty of 20th anniversary editions available used - although the tag "remixed version" gave me pause, but I think it's remixed as in remastered rather than remixed as everybody uses the word now, which makes sense because what people call remixes now are more like versions or revisions than just a simple change in the mix. Anyway, it sounds good to me).

Aiming for the same territory as Olafur Arnalds, Johann Johannson, and Max Richter; sometimes arriving there. It's not as consistently sure-footed as any of the above, and at times the elements don't hang together and ill-fitting percussion obtrudes, but it does have some nice passages. Worth a listen if you're looking for more in the vein of the above gentlemen.
@amclark2 - It doesn't seem like 40 years when you are enjoying yourself! Layla is one of my all-time favourite albums. Stll got a well worn LP somewhere....
@greg: When I was in the store, there were a guy and a girl about 15 years younger than me going through a discount bin, and they were talking about the Cranberries for a while, and then the girl was flipping through and she said "Nine Inch Nails" and the guy hurried over and said, "Oooh, let me see that." It was just so funny for me, who was really into NIN 15-20 years ago, listening to kids 15 years younger than me getting excited about NIN now, while I'm standing there with 25-40 year old albums that I'm excited about.

Welcome back, kez.
Replace the parentheses with brackets. You can also make it a link:

Cold, rainy, and 12 more days until vacation.

This album adds +3 to your saving throw against cold and rainy weather.
Argh, my eyes!
Much better. See the "iTunes classical deal" thread at the eMu messboard. I'm looking forward to digging into this (whilst retagging...)

Streaming all four of my Brass Monkey records, looking for material for my wife to sing.
