Every morning I can tell if Greg was on over night.

But of course it is not overnight for me!! It'll drop soon. I 'retired' a couple of months back after working part-time for a year or so. But I am starting to do some work for another university later this week, so less listening time....Sometimes it is lonely here though until the East Coast wakes up!
  • Oh, I know it isn't overnight for you! But aren't I the center of the universe?

I hope not too much less listening time, because I do enjoy looking through your posts when I get online in morning.

    Craig
  • I knew you'd realise that!!! I also know where the centre of the Universe is.... Likewise I actually enjoy reading through the previouys overnight posts for me and adding in a few commnets here and there. It is a pity we do not have that many regular contributors from Europe other than BrighterNow and myself. Listening time is always up and down a bit, but also access to computer time - it is on far less at the weeknd for example and during school holidays when my wife is off work! Say no more.....
  • I also know where the centre of the Universe is

Scientifically, isn't the center of the universe the place from which all matter is moving away?
  • Scientifically, isn't the center of the universe the place from which all matter is moving away?

Well, that explains my social life...
  • Scientifically all points in space are moving away from each other, and so all points are theoretically the center. I think? kargatron probably knows this one, so he must be the center. Or a witch. Or something.
  • That is my understanding as well amclark2. Although if the holographic principal is correct then we're all just a projection and who knows where the center is.

Also, he is most certainly a witch. He turned me into a newt.

    Come at me bro.
  • No, the center of the universe is clearly marked and is a small row of cafes and boutique stores in Grand Rapids, not far from where I live. Photographic evidence below:

  • You couldn't have worn a tie for that historic photo?
  • edited September 2011
Not me in the photo. Random pic from online. For the record, as a British person school teacher moved to teach at a college in the Mid-West, it took me about eight years to get past wearing a tie to class every day.

Interesting GP - I never wear a tie to class at work (University of Northampton) but I am amazed when I go into schools to see students teach that virtually all male teachers still wear a tie. It seems to be one of the last bastions of tie wearing. My stepson works in a major multinational company and ties are never worn there either. Something to do with expectations of teachers from traditionalists/conservatives (small c but could be large C) representing traditional (ie old fashioned?) values that no longer exist in wider society.
  • It's a shame, I love ties. But for some reason it is the new norm for professionals to wear blazers with dress shirts and no ties. Ditch the jackets and keep the ties!

@Thom, ties get caught in the server racks. It is one of the least cool things on earth to rack a 4U when your tie slips into the rail and you follow it in with a GHEEEEHHHCH. <experienced />[/
  • I wear a tie every day. Today's has a pattern of Stradivarius violins. I always get a lot of compliments on it.

@Greg, yes, I taught secondary for a number of years before going back to postgrad and then moving into higher education. That's where the habit was cemented. I think as well as conservative expectations, there are also sometimes survival reasons why teachers want to look as if they are in charge. Above comment suitably amended, with tongue suitably in cheek.
  • @elwood - I always hated when I would dress up one day and then end up working in the ceiling running cables...

@craig - Hey, there is a benefit to being a lawyer after all!

I'd bump my post count even more tonight but I'm off to see Cut Copy (and Washed Out).

@thom - let me know how that show was - it's coming here next week. Wondering if I should go.

Those bastard server racks have pulled my hair, broken necklaces, and ripped earrings frm my ears.
  • @Germanprof - I'll write more about it later, but definitely go if you can. Washed Out was very cool and Cut Copy was just plain awesome.
  • Wow, Craig has dropped off the pace a little since we last looked.
  • interesting to look at this thread again. I think I have reached my peak at 4. My wife retires a week today, computer time will be considerably less I can see!! Perhaps even music playing time too, as things like gardening take over. But amc2 you must have some more paintings that you could put up?
  • I actually don't think my pace has changed. Others are just rabbiting by me!

    Craig
  • 88 posts to catch up on GP - don't think I'll make it, but it is now one less!
  • @Greg, you could review those Beatles songs you just listened to, one by one...
  • No way, GP - I've no intention of making that attempt, 4th place is quite good enough for me!!
  • Greg,

MP3 player while your gardening or dig out an old beat box. I use the excuse that the plants grow better listening to certain tracks and judging by this years garden it seems to work.
  • Wow, I just noticed I'm #2 on visits. Crazy. Maybe partially due to emusers being one of my browser home tabs? Anyway, my post/visit ratio may be the lowest around - jeesh, what a free-rider!
  • amclark2, can you feel my breath in your neck ?
    :-)
