After listening to the Lukas Ligeti (which I kind of admired, but perhaps didn't quite "get"), I was surprised to find the next free Innova album much closer to my usual stomping grounds. Enjoying this. Thanks, BN.
@ GP: I kind of expected that. . . and you are most welcome . . .
ETA: this one just showed up in my Emusic / Recommended Records feed:
- And its free @ Bandcamp . . . I thought for a moment it was Amanda Palmer on vocals, but it's not.
- Sounds just great !
Just started in on this. The opening track is utterly arresting. Found it via an ambient mix...I see it's reviewed on AAJ. If this is jazz, I'm on board. Delicious stuff.
BT, you might be right...might have to finally go Bandcamp. Probably a good time to do so with eMu being of so little profit lately. Thanks. And, damn, that cover painting is cool.
I began to suspect that it was a label-switch when I went to tweet my picks and noticed that google was still recognizing it as an ObliqSound release when emusic had it as Motema.
This is a big reason that I shy away from anything that doesn't show a release date with the current year in it. Of course, the only harm is that I've put the spotlight on a beautiful album that probably got very little attention the first time around, so effectively no harm done at all. And I do mention it's an older release. Still, kind of irritating.
But now that I think upon it... had I known what I know now, I probably still would've made it a Pick, just maybe not my Find of the Week. Or maybe I would've done that, too. It's that beautiful. And the week of freshly ripped was so heavy on the dissonance, that it was a nice relief to listen to Sira.
Jonah - I think you are absolutely right to make Sira your Find of the Week. It is rare for me to call an album beautiful, but it is! It deserves extra exposure.
@ BT:
I have never heard of Coo Ben How, it doesn't sound Danish or even remotely Scandinavian to me, but Andreas Skovby Hansen rings a bell, I just can't figure out wich bell the ringing comes from . . .
Np:
- Definitely some very nice experimental psychedelic soundscapes here . . . A bit in the same vein as Edward Ka-Spel & The Silverman and their The Thirty Year Itch album. (much recommended)
Thoughts:
This really exeeds The Pigeon breeders by a 100 % - Maybe because Edward & Silverman is so intimately connected in a spiritual kind of way through working together for 30 years. A masterpiece and perfection defined . . .
ETA: more thoughts:
Maybe this wasn't a fair comparison after all . . .

Jonah new jazz recc from a couple weeks back.
Now starting:
I heard about the plaque this morning too, Greg.
Craig
- ETA: And:
- 4 tracks from this one.
Lots of 70's glam for me today.
Craig
(the Blues and Roots disc)
- Awaiting his new album with much anticipation:
Lovely new compilation from Audio Gourmet and Hibernate. Just wrote to them about reviewing it.

Theo Bleckmann "Hello Earth! The Music of Kate Bush"
-Lovely album. Made me want to revisit Bush's originals, too.
Will Fisher "Portage"
-Intriguing debut of drummer led quartet. Has a bandcamp page.
Lynne Arriale "Solo"
-There's a reason I made this my Pick of the Week on emu a couple weeks back. Reminds me of Don Pullen's more melodic work.
RE: Ablaye Cissoko & Volker Goetze - "Sira"

Currently streaming this nice bit of alt-country, apparently recording with guys from someplace called Coo Ben How En (is that near you, BN?):
NYOP--well worth a listen

Just catching up with Plaistow, good stuff. Makes me want to be taking a long drive to nowhere.
