Website Pledgemusic

At the risk of trying everyone's patience (I know I'm sounding like a broken record today since I've already posted two messages about Pledgemusic), but I'm posting just one more time since I don't recall it being mentioned here on emusers and after investigating it more, I thought it deserved another plug. The number of artists familiar to me that have ongoing projects on Musicpledge is greater than I would have expected - and I haven't looked that deeply:

Susan McKeown
Juliana Hatfield
Ben Sollee
Jess Klein
Grant-Lee Phillips
Vandaveer
Garrison Starr
Tim Gearan
Meiko
Pierce Turner

  • Thanks, Kez - there's a lot of stuff on there. And interesting to see that naming your band "Lesbian Bed Death" does not keep you from getting generously funded.
  • I could imagine several scenarios where Lesbian Bed Death would receive huge funding.

Of course, the fact that I can, in fact, imagine those scenarios makes it unnecessary to actually fund and purchase the actual product, but I'm sure that it would be a big hit for those with lesser imaginations than I.
  • They're no Gay Witch Abortion (who are actually a good band).

    Doesn't anyone screen these calls?

edit: thanks, I think I'm watching too much Mad Men lately. Well that and the end of the semester loopiness.
  • Banned them.
  • iwdy23, what kind of music do you like to listen to while you're running scam websites in your mother's flat in Moscow?
  • Thanks to "The Muterator" . . .
    :-)
  • Well, I see this thread has kinda ventured afar from the original subject with some entertaining extras, but back to the original idea -

I had made a pledge on Pledgemusic's website to Tim Gearan's new album "Riverboat" which will be released May 10 (CD release party scheduled for Atwoods in Cambridge, MA), and pledgers got an early digital download of the entire album this morning. Listening to it now - initial impression: Very, very good. I can see why Tim says it's the best album he's ever made. It really rocks.

Anyhow, I think Pledgemusic is a great website with a lot of potential for under-appreciated artists to get funded, which is why I started the thread in the first place. I also think it would be a great addition to MiG's blogroll.
  • I'm Ok with adding them. Who would do that?

Unless I got the wrong impression, this funds the musicians efforts to create magic. Finger in pie by the suits? Hopefully not! Musicians doing what they do best, certainly!!!
  • Done!

I saw a forgotten but familiar face & name there--Cas Haley. He was a finalist on America's Got Talent a few years ago. He had an interesting story about being signed to a major, being unhappy with their control, walking away from the deal, and using Pledgemusic instead.
