Just finished Disc 1 of the Ragged But Right George Jones box set - took a couple of weeks to come back into stock - wow. Hokey and corny at times yes, but this is some stone honky-tonking music here. I might need to buy some corn liquor on the way home. Where the hell am I going to find corn liquor in New York City? Might have to settle for some Maker's Mark - a sacrifice I can live with I think. RIP, Mr. Jones.
Cheevers Toppah's True Melodies. Kiowa songs and hymns with multi-tracked harmonies. Toppah has a great voice, with an impressive ability to work with (largely) pentatonic melodies through careful and thoughtful embellishment. Worth a listen if you are looking for something different in spiritual/religious music, or want something comparable to South African or Russian hymnody (I'm looking at you, GP).
Listening to this amazing new almum: Pan-American - Cloud Room, Glass Room - "With percussionist extraordinaire Steven Hess now a full fledged member, Mark Nelson and PanAmerican deliver their first new album since White Bird Release from 2009. This collection of new sounds began with the duo rehearsing for a series of shows in southern europe in late 2011 and early 2012, the songs written together as a group to be played live. Bobby Donne (Labradford, Cristal) plays bass on multiple tracks, further emphasizing the live band feel.
Mark Nelson's deft production touches abound, subtly mixing disparate elements into a fully integrated whole, while Hess prominently displays a myriad of percussion techniques showing a mastery of understated rhythms. The resulting album is a resonant listen that ranks with the best of PanAmerican's catalog." http://www.kranky.net/ - http://soundcloud.com/experimedia/pan-american-cloud-room-glass

Rolling along pretty good this morning with my old "Jazz/Funk from Space" playlist.

I don't believe I've mentioned that Johnny Dowd has a new album due in Aug.
Steve Roach / vidnaObmana - Circles & Artifacts
Something mellow while I'm getting over the corn liquor. When I discovered Herb Ellis is on this too it clinched the deal.
