Streaming on Guvera. I was not aware of the Argentinian folk singer, Mercedes Sosa (often referred to as "the voice of Latin America"), but I've become intrigued by sampling her numerous recordings. I'm enjoying this album. Guvera has tons of her albums, though, and it's hard to know what to pick. If anybody has a favorite, let me know so I'll know what to try next!).

Now streaming another Mercedes Sosa album. Gosh, I never dreamed investigating her many albums on Guvera would lead me to a Latin American mass! It is very beautiful. Being curious about the musical works, I googled a little on Misa Criolla's Argentinian composer, Ariel Ramirez:
"...After World War II, he left for a performing and music teaching career in Europe, and an encounter with a group of nuns in southern Germany led him to contemplate writing a spiritual piece that evolved into "Misa Criolla." After returning to Buenos Aires in the mid-1950s, he recorded more than a dozen records under the RCA label and began collaboration with Luna on folklore-inspired campaign songs for the successful presidential candidate Arturo Frondizi. The popular success of "Misa Criolla" established Mr. Ram[/img]
One of this week's Jazz Picks from Jonah. I'm getting into a routine of downloading my favourite each week and putting one or two more into my SFL.

Modern jazz fusion with a real likable personality. Mixes post-bop with indie-rock, and the qualities of the latter allow the qualities of the former to develop at a nice and steady pace. A quintet with Scholtens guitar, Lars Dietrich on alto sax, Jasper Blom on tenor sax, Sean Fasciani on bass, and Kristijan Krajncan on drums. Album gets off to a decent start, and grows stronger with each subsequent tune, before ending with the enchanting The Architect III.
Update - really liking this, I can see it getting lots of plays!
Another great find thanks to Ghostly's drip. They are somewhere between experimental krautrock, post-rock and... techno? Very cool, need to find their other albums.
So, I thought I should listen to Miley Cyrus just to know what it sounded like (I've never to my knowledge heard anything by her). I figured an album called Bangerz ought to at least, you know, bang, and I could handle that even if her singing isn't good. I made it about 10 seconds into the first song, which absolutely does not bang and her voice is terrible.
So, instead it's a little punk to cleanse my pallet:

Kate Boy - Northern Lights EP
Fits right in with all the indie pop that has been coming out this year. Especially Chvrches.

Utterly uninteresting Florence and the Machine knockoff.

Seems a safe bet that I should thank BN here. Thanks, BN. This is full of brooding drama.
