I am not sure who suggested this one, but it is a lovely piece of music. I am on my third time through it today....

    Thanks, BN, enjoying this.

Nice new trio album. As a sort of cheat-sheet for new jazz releases, anything with busy young(ish) drummer Brian Blade in the lineup is likely to be good!

I was talking to a guy last might about 12-string guitar masters, Fahey came up a few few times.
  • 2 disc set I got at eMu of more obscure soul, really good, South Side of Soul Street, the Minaret Soul Singles 1967-1976. Highly recommended for soul fans.

The self-titled debut from The Knells (a new ensemble formed by composer/guitarist Andrew McKenna Lee) featuring Mivos String Quartet and more, will be released on November 19 on New Amsterdam Records.

The Knells is a grand statement of purpose coming from Brooklyn-based artist Andrew McKenna Lee. A seasoned performer and composer who has showcased his talents in esteemed venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, Lee created The Knellsto be a working reconciliation of the multitude of different musical styles he has absorbed: as a rock guitarist who has performed alongside legends Billy Idol and former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones; as a singer/songwriter; as a serious concert music composer; and — as he is most widely known — a classical guitar virtuoso. . . .

    Free/NYOP on Noisetrade

This is excellent. Good representation of songs available from their several albums, including their newest. Anyone who likes progressive bluegrass needs to hear this! Among the many highlights are the stunning acapella song, 'Rain in the Valley,' and the 8+-minute 'Long Way to Go' that is one of the best recordings of the genre I've heard. Listening to this live performance on Noisetrade has already caused me to purchase the newest CD and I'm already contemplating which one to buy next. Get it.
  • Grateful Dead, 4/15/1969, the Music Box, Omaha - nice show, not the best recording, but good enough for a noise fan.

It has probably been 25 years since I've heard this band. They were HUGE around the Twin Cities when the Minneapolis Sound was in its prime.

I actually have an autograph from one of the female members that I got in '89 or so, but I can't decipher it to figure out which one it is.

All-star electro(?)- free-jazz(?) project from the new(?) Cuneiform drop at eMu. Info from Bandcamp page:
The big bang that led to Skull Sessions detonated when the We Want Miles exhibition at SESC Sao Paulo requested that Mazurek devise a presentation related to his deep affinity for the music of Miles Davis. In characteristic fashion, he decided against recreating any of Davis’s music, instead composing new pieces and rearranging earlier works for the Octet’s particular personalities and unusual timbres. The resulting album is a exploratory album that puts great musicians and compositions together and trusts in them enough to simply let them go!

ETA: Jeez Louise. Listen to the track "Skull Caves of Alderon," if you dare.
