I've just been looking at The Quietus Top 100 of the year and realised I had 5 (or 4 not entirely sure about #76) anyway this morsel was holding up the rest at #100 and I like it more than the retro post-punk of their #1 album. Anyway, think guitar soli with a difference. Discovering the Hubro label has been one of the better things about 2015-6.
And here is more fun to brighten up what has to be the greyest Saturday afternoon in South London I can remember, it's not even the shortest day for another week and a half... mutter mumble.
"Time is a luxury that The Dwarfs Of East Agouza indulge themselves in fully. Deeply satisfying riffs are explored fully by the trio of Cairene electronic producer Maurice Louca, Sam Shalabi of the Land Of Kush and Sun City Girl, Alan Bishop, producing hypnotic psych rock that lies somewhere between Circle, Omar Khorshid, Can and the Groundhogs." John Doran A joy on a chilly but sunny Sunday lunchtime.
Just been writing about this and how Shabaka Hutchings crops up in a number of differing styles. This is sort of a Brit version of Kamasi Washington, except it was recorded in Jo'Burg by an Octet 7/8 of which are South African. Strong album.
Taking shape out of the ruins of Henry Cow, one of the most prominent
and daring acts emerging from the Canterbury scene, Art Bears built upon
the musical adventurousness of Cow, but opted for a more song based
approach. The marxist bent of Bears' predecessor remained, but taking
both more subtle as well as blunt expression.
The 'proper' Art Bears emerged during the recording of what was
supposed to be Henry Cow's fifth studio album: it was apparent early on
that the direction many of the songs were taking was toward song
territory. After the first sessions, it was decided that additional
material was to be recorded, and released under the Art Bears moniker.
Responsible for the drive in this direction was two thirds of the
trio: drummer and lyricist Chris Cutler and guitarist/ bassist/
keyboardist/ violinist Fred Frith. These completing pieces were Terrain,
The Tube The Dance and Piers.
Singing with Cow since its first collaborative record with Slapp
Happy was german vocalist Dagmar Krause. In great part responsible for
the distinctiveness of latter Henry Cow and Art Bears, Dagmar has a
near-operatic singing style, ranging from utterly expressive to
restrained and repressed: a perfect match for the texts and their
accompanying music
Western Culture
British avantgarde/art-rock group, founded in May 1968 at Cambridge University by multi-instrumentalists Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson. Other important long-term members alongside Frith and Hodgkinson were drummer Chris Cutler, bassist John Greaves and bassoonist/oboist Lindsay Cooper. Henry Cow disbanded in 1978.
BN - that first Art Bears cover, I guessed the era and style just from the cover. It is so typical of that genre in that era!
Encore ditto !
- Yeah . . . these two albums was chosen out of a decades long passion for drummer/percussionist and ReR Megacorp (Recomended Records) founder Chris Cutler and his many projects - an area where there seems to be still unknown chapters to be discovered. (the latest was The Artaud Beats)
2016 albums and opera time:
An operatic oratorio for four singers, piano trio, percussion and chorus by composer Andrew Staniland and poet Jill Battson

Kyoka - SH
Pjusk - Vals
Includes a collab with Strië.
Band Ane (aka. Ane Østergaard) is one of the very few danish female electronic / ambient artist and a truely great one.
- I could imagine that GP. would like this . . .
For me this ranges all the way from very enjoyable to utterly unlistenable. Which makes it an interesting ride.
EARS
by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith
Giovanni Guidi - "Ida Lupino"
Pretty much anything with trombonist Gianluca Petrella guesting on is gonna be good, but he really syncs up great with Guidi.
A joy on a chilly but sunny Sunday lunchtime.
Bandcamp #5

This has me very happy. Peaceful music with just enough activity to keep it from becoming sleepy music.
