Thanks from me too! Lots more exploring to do. It seems too complicated for me to figure out how to post those pictures but I'm still buying $75 =$200 boosters and haven't run out of interesting things to download. Some last longer than others, depends on the weather.
@omnifoo great list that has enabled me to add a whole lot of extra albums to my Wish List.
It would be great if all of us who are still on eMusic could follow @omnifoo’s example and do lists of good music that is still available and/or take a screen shot of their latest purchases and post them on this thread. It would certainly simplify that searching!
Thanks to @Brighternow, @plong42, @Germanprof, @greg and particularly @omnifoo, I have added an extra 50 or so albums to my Wish List. What's really good is that they are nearly all by artists that I really like but have never heard of before.
All of you and others, please don't stop doing this!
I am not sure any of us are capable of stopping our incessant talking about music and recommending new music...my wife has long since given up trying to get me to quit this addiction....
For omnifoo, thanks for the long list. (Mine is here). I'm on hiatus from emusic, but will return eventually and good to have some things to look for. I just wanted to say that I'm also a fan of ONUKA -- I first learned about this Ukrainian electro group when they did the interval act of Eurovision a few years ago. (you can watch it here).
@idiotprogrammer That's a great list of resources and picks; you've been at this a long time, and help is needed lately more than ever. It seems there's a mass exodus going on over at the Reddit forum, and I wonder if you concur that your last straws are being reached. I've also appreciated your reviews on the eMusic site to hint at what's worth sampling when we're starting from total ignorance now. The 99-cent albums will keep me happy as a clam indefinitely, but I don't gather that's the case for most folks.
Thanks @idiotprogrammer and @omnifoo. Clubbing together we are still finding some gems! My latest is The Physics House Band (see "Still on eMusic" discussion) which is producing some of the best progressive rock I've heard for quite some time. Also, Holy Sons.
The 99-cent albums will keep me happy as a clam indefinitely
If only - some of those cost us twice or three times more than from Amazon, because of our eMusic per track payment system. I might have stayed if I could get such bargains, but ended up buying things that were second or third choice at best. I can buy first choices from other sources, even though it is costing me a bit more.
@greg yeah, I don't understand the pricing system, and half the time I think the 99-cent stuff is an error. If ever there were a reason to have a VPN outside of China, a U.S. eMusic account to circumvent per-track downloading would be it. I'm in Thailand and it lets me use my U.S. account, so it must be a UK-specific policy (if I recall that's where you are). Then I guess there'd be country-tied payment issues, too. The alternative of paying slightly more for stuff I've heard of and might still buy on CD has growing appeal all right. Still trying to stay out of the race between Amazon, Apple, and Google to own/sell everything, though. @peterfrederics I liked the Physics House Band album more than an Hon. Mention actually and will have to look into Holy Sons. Did you try Austin TV and Arias?
Well, let me first say the I tried to figure out how to post pictures of downloads but I just couldn't get it. I know there's other browsers and what-not but I guess I'm just not keen on venturing out there. Maybe if I ever get one of the cell phones I'll feel differently but... At any rate, these are what I purchased from Emusic. The artist link is for Discogs in case you want to see who they are or more info about the albums and album links are Emusic albums (if they're still there when I posted this). I prefer to get albums complete as I'm always thinking I might have left the best on the table and I'm currently going through my existing library and adding artists that have interested me, replacing vinyl or taking suggestions from you Emusers (lots). Sometimes the links come back (I did make this on a weekend) or are on different labels in your countries, so try a search if you are interested. This is the second time I'm going through my library trying to get at least 1 play listed in my iTunes and I'm currently in the Fs (lost all the stats and ratings during my last computer upgrade). Oh well, back to the tried and true - copy & paste.
@confused I forgot there were still a Paul Schutze and Foetus (though I wish it still had his newer classical stuff as Manorexia and Steroid Maximus) albums. Looks like a good haul in any case!
You're probably wondering why the "Indian Tribes: Cafe Krishna" album! It's because of a track by my Band of the moment The Wyld Olde Souls. They could so easily be from the prog/psych late 1960s but are actually from the late 90s.
By far their best song is "Take me There" on another strange album "Cafe Progressive: Further Experiments of Goth, Vol. 2"! Do try it via the link below.
Sadly, their album "Ensoulment" has disappeared from eMusic but do look for a few of their tracks which lie in the strange and mysterious depths of the new eMusic!
@confused I had high hopes for the Spire Organ Works but was disappointed; ditto for newer stuff from The Black Dog. Is all the Vitor Rua pretty similar? Dan Deacon, Kerridge, EN, and Coil much more interesting IMO. Was thinking about getting the TUTTI. Looks like a lot of good jazz I've never heard of. Wish I could afford another booster but will just have to subsist on my subscription for a while.

Well, I wish I could comment on Vitor Rua but as I'm commited to listening to the alphabet, I'm only in the Fs. At $.49 per track (less booster discount) I couldn't resist getting a bunch of those singles. I don't spend much time listening to samples as I like to be surprised when I first hear them. Same goes for the Organ Works which I got as I wanted that Chris Watson track and didn't want to leave it all alone in the library. I'd have to agree with you on The Black Dog and I really enjoyed TUTTI. I also really enjoyed Cabaret Contemporain, Dominik Wania Trio, Ches Smith's Finally out of my hands, all the Daniel Carter and my disappointment was Elvis Perkins. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow when my Emusic light subscription is due. I'm not sure I want to use a Pay Pal. This reminds me of when I first joined Emusic in 2001 just as the unlimited downloads were ending and I was downloading like crazy then too. I don't mind waiting to hear them...gives me something to do every tomorrow.
@confused Everyone's gotta game the system in their own ways to make it work nowadays; that's for sure. When my monthly credit comes in I'll make a point of sampling what you enjoyed. Just reading and not having heard of most, I have no idea what they sound like. I guess a good cd/record store will let us listen before buying, but I'd say it's one of the last advantages eMusic has over a brick and mortar store. Nobody to blame for a bad surprise except our own impulsiveness. I didn't know anyone on the Organ Works but just like organ music and thought it was a good deal...probably won't listen to it again, but it's a very small exception to the rule. What do you mean by "listening to the alphabet?"
Well, to make a short story long, in Aug. 2017 I got a new Mac mini computer and screwed up the transfer of iTunes to the new computer. I lost all my information about the number of plays, ratings and whatnot. I purged through the daily download singles and various free compilations I'd picked up through Emusic and other sources. I decided I didn't want to have any tracks with 0 plays so I've been working through the iTunes alphabet trying to have at least 1 play showing for each album and get the proper album cover and information. I play a letter until I decide to move on to the next knowing I will get back to it again; unless I stop buying music and that's not going to happen. At any rate, I'm back at G again. I really don't mind waiting to hear something new, it gives me something to look forward to.
ps. I see that I have 32,343 tracks out of 62,900 that have still have 0 plays since 2017. Oops, make that 32342.
I'm the same confused. I also lost my play information when I transferred to a new PC, probably also 2017. I've not been as succesful as you though at filling in the gaps, maybe I ought to try your method!
As the hard drives fill up, music transfers are always precarious. I lost dozens of first tracks b/c the many named "Intro" were being treated as duplicates and haven't been able to track them all down years later. I like keeping track of plays too, but you definitely take it to the next level in disciplining your listening habits equitably. I hope that doesn't mean you never just feel like "I want to listen to X" but deny yourself the pleasure b/c it's not the right letter at the time! That'd be too much for me.
To achieve simlar results, after using a laptop for a couple years, I always make a playlist of all the unplayed tracks and like to leave it on shuffle for some surprises and long-forgotten favorites. I miss the days when iTunes just came out and totaled how many months/years worth of music and how many tracks were in the library. Furthermore, when iTunes is "retired" in the future, I hope whatever replaces it keeps most of the functionality and doesn't just push their streaming all the time.
Always appreciate a peek into the systematic listening of another obsessive!
Well, with all our crappy weather I've had a bit of time to try to get up to date. @omnifoo - I only listen to the alphabet when I'm playing albums. I too, have a few playlists(16) of all tracks that have had that initial play and they get the majority of plays while I'm working in the garden or the garage.
These are my downloads for October. The pick of the tracks are the following:
- Martin Mey "One Time Too Many" from the album "Exile on Tropical Street" - RGM "Jackhammer Burden" - The Vryll Society "Andrei Rublev" - Lady Pank "Zamki na Piasku" - Drifting Sun "Wings of Hope" - Oratorium "Ich Bin Nicht Mehr Allein" - Marcus "Rise Unto Falcon" - Ashbury "The Warning", "Vengeance" and "Endless Skies"
I'm also a subscriber to 65daysofstatic's 'A Year of Wreckage - Unreleased/Unreleasable' project, which has been pretty good value so far: one e.p. per month for a year, plus some previous releases, all for about £30
Will probably pick-up the other Craven Faults releases via bandcamp too as they're not on eMusic
