With the departure of Garth Hudson, last surviving member of The Band, time to listen in to some of those well remembered and highly regarded albums of theirs.
"Music From The Big Pink"
"The Last Waltz" which readers of Rolling Stone magazine rated amongst the top 10 best live rock albums of all time.
Not surprising when you look at the list of the who's who of then top rank musicians who appeared on stage with The Band including Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Eric Clapton, Muddy Walters and Paul Butterfield amongst others.
When he was a teen my son went through a metal phase, and I was determined to stay in touch with his music. This is one of the very few albums of his from that time and genre that I still listen to every now and then. The fact that I saw the material several times live with him helps, but it's a good album too.
I am not normally into 1970s traditional folk but rather liked this s/t album released in 1970 by Heron, particularly the tracks "Yellow Roses", "Upon Reflection" and "Lord and Master".
The Humble Bee & Offthesky - "All Other Voices Gone, Only Yours Remains"
Encountered some difficulty getting the music files transferred from my old laptop to new, which has left me needing to manually import a number of disorganized recordings lacking nearly all of their metadata. The upside to this is I'm given the opportunity to address whether I really want certain albums in my new laptop's library. Some of these albums are ones I barely even remember buying/downloading in the first place. This one, part of an IIKKI Label release, I am enthusiastically importing this morning. A lovely album. Ambient, early morning music, but with the kinds of odd effects and production that could make the quieter offerings of Sparklehorse so damn riveting.
"The joyous all-Irish traditional instruments version of Terry Riley’s In C on Louth Contemporary Music Series." Steve Smith, For the Record. Link goes to bandcamp.

"The Weight" from the film of "The Last Waltz"
and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"
Rated No.2 in both Rolling Stone's Top 50 live albums and Rolling Stones Readers' Top 10 live albums.
Me too, currently listening to The Weight, 0ne of the all time great tracks, as I play through the album. It'll be Stage Fright next...
